Very few directors took a chance on him.
I guess he couldn't make a go of it when comedy movies became Judd Apatow improv shit. Should have done some serious roles and got some critical acclaim like other fading comedy actors.
He had a pretty good career. just never became an A-lister.
Back when movies were made for specific demographics still and could have an ounce of uniqueness to them.
Now everything is made purely to maximize profits and that means trying to cater/pander to everybody at once while choosing to make something nearly identical to something which has already been proven to sell semi recently.
