I hate it for two simple reasons: GITS is one of my all time favorite anime and a live action movie was completely unnecessary. That, and ScarJo made a terrible Motoko. Motoko is supposed to be a cyborg super soldier and ScarJo could barely hold up a prop gun without her arm shaking.
All that said, I shouldn't really hate it since there were a lot of good throwbacks to GITS. References to the first movie, SAC S1, SAC S2, etc. And it actually flowed somewhat well between the different references, which surprised me.
Now, THAT said, I thought it was fucking retarded that they actually made her name Major. I assume it's because the retarded audience would go "who the fuck is Motoko?" when they called her that instead of Major. Understandable from a movie-making standpoint, but I still thought it was retarded.

This was the last A-list blockbuster I ever remember not being totally blackpilled over even before seeing it. I was collecting the single issue GitS issues Dark Horse published back in the mid 90's. Been a huge fan of Shirow forever. Certainly Hollywood couldn't fuck this up too badly, could they? Could they?

I watched the original Ghost in the Shell the other day
I didn't remember how heavy-handed the movie was with the exposition of its themes. Might just be the Seinfeld Effect but I came close to rolling my eyes a few times

the aesthetic was good and II didnt hate it, but changing the majors back story was stupid, It just stinks of some writer who wanted to feel more important than they are by changing some major plot point in a famous IP for no other reason than vanity. It didnt add anything to the story in any way, it was just lame

that scene makes me think of neuromancer, i wonder how that show will turn out.
