It's pretty good, the main cast is fairly likeable the the family dynamic is pretty realistic. It's FD so, no one's going to watch it for a deep compelling plot, the series is practically a dark comedy.

Tower premonition

Boy throws a penny off a tower which flies into the tower's vent causing a gas pipe to burst. The tower's glass dance floor, weakened by a piece of a chandelier, falls apart when dancers repeatedly jump on top of it and several people fall to their deaths. A woman is accidentally set on fire by a chef which causes an explosion from the gas leaked earlier and incinerates many people. Many people try to use the elevator to escape but the elevator wires break and a man standing in-between the elevator doors is sliced in half when it falls. The tower top tips over and causes a piano to slide off, crushing a woman through a pane of glass. The boy who originally threw the penny manages to escape the tower but is obliterated by the falling piano. Iris, the person having the premonition, tries to save a young child as they hang off the side of the tower. Her ring caught by metal rebar, Iris' finger is torn off and they fall to their deaths, with Iris being impaled through the head.

Grandma Iris

A weather vane is blown off the top of her house and lands on a fire extinguisher which bursts, making the weather vane fly into the back of Iris' head and through her mouth.

Uncle Howard

A glass cup breaks and a shard is unknowingly put into someone's drink which spills when a Jenga tower falls onto it. Howard steps on the glass shard causing him to fall and a lawnmower shreds his face after a rake tipped over and turned the lawnmower on.

Cousin Julia

A tree trimmer falls onto a man using a leaf blower which blows leaves towards some kids playing soccer. One of the kids, blinded by the leaves, kicks the soccer ball and knocks Julia into a garbage bin. A garbage truck grabs the garbage bin and tosses Julia into it's compactor which crushes her skull and rips her arm apart.

Cousins Erik and Bobby

After learning Death's rules, Erik tries to save Bobby by killing him with an allergic reaction and bringing him back to life. They get peanuts from a vending machine by tipping it over and loosening one of the metal coils when the peanuts get stuck. They try their plan in a room with an MRI machine but a clipboard falls onto a keyboard that causes the machine to gradually grow in magnetic force. Bobby eats the peanuts and begins to swell up. Erik tries to bring Bobby to the ER with a wheelchair but the MRI machine pulls his phone out of his hand and onto one of it's buttons. The magnetic force maximizes and causes the MRI machine to rip out Erik's piercings from his body, including his earrings, septum ring and nipple piercings. The MRI machine then pulls Erik towards itself with the wheelchair, folding his body in half as the wheelchair's metal pierce his abdomen. Bobby manages to survive his allergic reaction but is killed when a nurse opens the door and the metal coil from the vending machine earlier flies straight into his head.

Mommy Darlene

At Iris' house for safety, a rope hanging a plant pot snaps, making it fall onto a stove and causes gas to leak. A malfunctioning light causes a small fire on top of the house but one of it's embers is blown by the wind and into the house, creating an explosion and blowing up the house entirely. Darlene survives but is crushed by a falling light post.

Stef and Brother Charlie

In the suburbs after death is thought to be cheated, a woman buys a cookie from a lemonade stand. A penny falls out of her coin purse and rolls into train tracks nearby, causing the track merging to malfunction. The train derails and speeds towards Stef and Charlie, destroying all the houses in it's path. Stef and Charlie survive the derailment but the train cars continue to pile up, one of them containing logs that fly into the air, crushing them entirely.

I've never bothered with a single one of these movies. However, it is raining bad today and I've seen all the other movies at my local theater that I want to see. Should I go watch it?

In 3, Ian wanted to test this theory after it skipped him and it killed his emo paramore girlfriend - since the main girl was next, he also felt invincible and wanted revenge.

Ian dies then and there because A- the seats were switched on the roller coaster, so Wendy was never next, and B- everyone else had death skip them based on the photos, and Ian was the only one left on the list to kill.

That would require a whole new group killing disaster to be planned. And if you’ve completely rigged your place to combat that, you can have it skip you. Iris understood the assignment.

And not cause I w anna see a kid die or anything, but it's cause in the back of your mind you know they're basically not in any form of danger no matter what is happening so it kills my immersion a little when a kid is involved

Unless it’s only because they’re fighting against it that they’re dying so soon so horribly but proven untrue with the first victims of all the movies who don’t know anything about Death’s plans and Iris in this movie who contracts cancer after hiding out for so long.

Death blew up the whole cabin, turning her entire property into a brand new canvas. They were actively aware of most dangers, but the mom didn’t notice the giant signpost right above her head.

The two kids were actively fighting death, so it was difficult to keep on going for it with their awareness. Basically, if you have fight or flight mode enabled, and you know your enemy, Death isn’t as crafty anymore, and will try to take what it can get.

yesterday i watched a "FD producer goes through every death in the franchise!" video on youtube. in it he specifically stated that they decided to never use animals in Death's plans, or use animals to try and defeat Death, because that would be ultra-paranormal to "possess" a living creature to do Death's bidding. so i think they've just decided they're never gonna fuck with animals. plus, people irl HATE when animals die on screen, let alone one of the characters purposefully killing one.

After watching bloodlines, this is easily the characters in the franchise.
The better acted jennifer lawrence opening made me believe this was going to be blade runner 2049 where the reboot rivals the original but sadly never met the energy as the titanic death homage opening. They really build the characters instead of killing them off instantly, made it feel like a real movie. The grandma visit gave me lot of halloween 2018 vibes which was pretty great but sadly that quickly ended. The girl talking about abondment issues gave me a flashback to the rehearsal show where nathan chats with his fake son about leaving him for a long time and also the scene when they walk past trees and kids playing soccer where nathan helps the black guy get answers for the trivia game night.
I liked the mental illness take in this movie and the reveal of the emo guy, really grounded the characters.
the retcon of death being the young black kid survivor might be controversial for fans but personally i loved it, creates a new lore like it did for jigsaw in X.
Anyway sadly it's still capeshit and got worse and worse in the 2nd half, the house explosion reminds of 2 hospital room explosion which made me think, its this just a remake of 2 where the veteran is hiding from death and the survivor seeks info from her and also almost returns to her homebase to survive.
Ending was bad and almost insulting honestly, i want to rank it below 5 but the characters are too good. Made me appreciate 2 more.

They could actually put some effort in creating an interesting mythos if they want to make a million movies. It's always the same shit. The only good additions to the franchise have been the "dying" to save death and killing someone to take their life.
Something like this would be nice. They have already long established that death is more than random and is a thinking thing.

The new movie finally added way more progression to the standard plot's formula from all the previous movies. Now we have a more diverse plot that serves as both a prequel and a sequel. The next one is also confirmed in production.

The novels have tried to materialize death as someone a character can talk to. But they also had to go and ruin it with "life".

If I was in a creative position for this franchise, I'd have death chatting with the survivors via something like telnet or similar terminal/prompt. A few 90s horror movies did that too.

In order for death not to kill you you can abduct a person and keep them captive in a dungeon or something that no one knows where he is, if death kills you then the captive dies since there's no one to feed him. And death cant kill someone that's not in his list.
