Not even close, TTGL had a side cast full of mediocre and worthless characters that have meaningless deaths at the end
Everyone in KLK is full of great characters that all play their parts and doesnt rely on cheap deaths to make it feel like there is a real threat
KLK has the superior soundtrack and tighter script and great episode pacing

KLK's failings are mostly on the production side.
Meme on ye olde Gainax but early Trigger makes their managerial staff look downright competent by comparison. They just clearly weren't ready to run a half year long show on their own in 2013.

I honestly think their first competent fullscale tv production was Gridman.

Almost everyone in Gurren Lagann was likeable, KLK basically just had the one schoolgirl with helmet hair and Gamagori I think was his name, and they were mostly just likeable out of comic relief
