The Holocaust is special because of the sheer industrial rigor of the genocide. Significant parts of the German economy were devoted to making sure the camp trains ran on time and the crematoriums kept running. Village to village, all along the Eastern front. It wasn't sporadic and individual mass slaughter like in the Rwandan genocide, or a localised famine like in the Holodomor. The industry of extermination is what makes it particularly unique.
The Armenian genocide was also called a Holocaust, by the way. Jewish scholars who highlighted the atrocities were the first to innovate the idea of genocide in the first place, specifically Raphael Lemkin. It was key in understanding the Jewish genocide. But the Ottoman Empire didn't have the same bureaucratic machinations as the Germans did. It was more 'conventional', with death marches and firing squads.

The documentary is great, interviewing people directly and indirectly involved, to a point where it becomes ludicrous to claim it never happened. Train drivers to camp leaders to people living in villages next to what’s happening. It’s a boots on the ground experience instead of the usual overview from an airplane look. I really prefer this over the americanized and heavily scored docus with some breathless narrator.
