It's ironic in a way that Universal who built their entire brand up on horror movies has struggled so hard with their Monsters IP since the turn of the century. Meanwhile WBD who are struggling hard with almost everything from DC to Harry Potter while being $40 billion in debt has been enormously successful with horror IPs in comparison ever since The Conjuring, even recently banking on one of the most expensive horror films ever made that's still going strong at the box office a month later while being both R rated horror and a brand new IP AND full of black people to boot neither of which tend to do that well at the International box office on their own.

Even the one WB horror IP that Universal has (The Exorcist) was a critical dud with the latest entry and they paid $400 million just to acquire those rights in the first place. It remains to be seen if the Mike Flanagan remake/reboot can break the cursed streak of The Exorcist and Universal horror movies. Maybe Eggers can turn his werewolf flick another Nosferatu tier hit too.

i loved the set but they put a bit too much lighting to compensate the lack of natural reflections(everything sips through the glass) and in the end it looks kinda odd

It feels like a lot of the individual parts were done well. The set like you mentioned, the story concept itself wasn't bad and each ghost had an interesting backstory that never really came up in the film. It's like they had all the pieces but focused on the wrong things.

I have been watching the films of Stuart Gordon. He's such a strange and underrated director. Edmund and King of the Ants especially were super underrated and a great surprise.
