Read the comic, people. The first part is much more about fighting an invisible force. it doesn't talk about capitalism or even government oppression.
The second part, released 20 years later is when the shit hit the fan, the theme and left-wing propaganda was much less subtle and Oesterheld became a terrorist in the eyes of the state. No one really liked that sequel, the characters were inconsistent, the whole thing felt like unoriginal fanfic, and some people even thought the guy went nuts.

It was a trolley problem, in theory it could have work but the problem is that the payoff was so utterly unsatisfactory that it makes him look like a retard. I haven't read eternaut 3 and beyond but I heard they got revived somehow idk. They can scrap all that extended universe and start over for me. Even a parallel story with another protag could work for me

Well, yes, but no. The first part embraces the human spirit. It's more a celebration on the human willingness to trascend. It obviously suggests that working together is crucial for survival, but that's not the focus. In fact, the whole point is that the main characters are left alone and make the biggest progress without the rest.

In the first part he wasn't willing to let his family die to save anything. He kept talking about how good it would be for everything to be over so he could meet his wife and daughter again. He ends up travelling through space and time to find THEM.
Juan Salvo is different in the sequel that came two decades later. Now it's all about the group, not even the species anymore.

This show is so damn good. Men speak, give orders, and act masculine as fuck while the women get out of the way or listen without being strong wammyn.
