These were all reasons why the show was funny. The character archetypes were very recognizable: Hedonistic Greek, depressed Irish alcoholic and neurotic narcissistic jew. The simple and
recognizable character stereotypes probably made the show successful.
This got memory holed, but there was this really inorganice push for left leaning internet voices around 2016. Trump supporters were just crushing the internet at that point on all major platforms and in response, the "dirt bag left" was born which was supposed to be the counter punch to this. Edgy internet trolls, but they are liberals! All of them were Bernie bros, but the push at the time was to get them to support Hillary. This is where Red Scare (who are now considered right wing lol) and Chapo Trap House comes in which at the time was like the most funded podcast on patreon to a point where it seemed odd.
Anyway, Cum Town was involved in all this and they were also pushed by this group, but the crew never really went for it and iirc Adam gave some interview saying that this idea was stupid, Cum Town is a ridiculous comedy podcast and nothing more, and only a retard would get their political takes from it.

I don't recall the guys delving much into politics in the early episodes, but that could just be me memory holing things. In fact, part of the reason I sort of stopped listening to the show (besides Nick's depressive episodes lasting obscenely long in the end) was that I really couldn't stand the stereotypical, half-formed, aloof political statements Nick would throw out and talk for like twenty minutes as if he had anything worthwhile to say about them. I think he fundamentally misunderstands literally everything about politics.
Anyway, they were funny at first because Nick was more consistently manic, and his "actor + gay + racial minority" voice skits with Stav cackling in the background were kino. Also the two of them ganging up on Adam. You could just tell they all really liked each other, which is still rare for podcasts, and it was sort of a friend simulator but actually stimulating because Nick is the good kind of autistic.
