What you're right about are Jormungand's writing, Ranking of Kings being drawn out and midwits treating LoGH as something it isn't (it's really a show about decent-ish young guys trying to overturn their rotten society; camaraderie kino). All of these things apply to Ergo Proxy as well though.
Have you seen Noein? Have yet to myself but it looks promising.
Ergo Proxy was one of the last anime I watched back a couple years ago and yes after watching hundreds of anime I can say it was the best one, mostly because it's one of a kind work that actually touches deep philosophical, psychological and moral themes, something rare in anime or in any medium really

Back at you. Nasu adaptations suffer from missing too much content of the work they are adapting. They end up feeling (borrowing here) shallow and pedantic because there's only so much you can fit into an adaptation. It's a shame, really.
