I did try a couple of different ones (and even a psychiatrist) but it didn't work out for me, not that I regret the experience (exluding the pills, which did nothing for me). People say that it might take a lot of tries to find the right therapist for you but the search felt too draining to me, thankfully eventually I managed to get quite a bit better on my own. Still I'd advise anyone in a similar situation to at least try talking to a psychologist, nothing to loose other than some time and money

my general physician had already told to pick a guy cause it's way easier for men before she deferred me to therapy though and she was a pretty wise old granny so I already had a heads up

Therapy is hubris, we don't understand how our minds work and trying to force something can also lead to disaster. In most cases just trying to stay as healthy and socialized as you can is enough to keep it manageable. Not to mention it's fucking expensive

I've started therapy again recently because my doctor said they won't keep seeing me unless I try again. Literally all they do is say "have you tried taking deep breaths and counting to 10 when you're stressed?" or to just outright avoid anything that does make you miserable which isn't always possible obviously. After each session I always go to the pub and drink like 5 pints to myself because it's so mentally draining.

It’s kidnapping a person to make sure they don’t kill themselves or others. That’s it. It’s not help. It’s theoretically meant to be a last resort to stop those outcomes. Getting put on a hold does not somehow mean the person starts attending regular therapy. If you put the wrong person on a hold, you actually on balance ruin their life rather than save it, just because of how traumatic the experience is and the loss of trust in people
