What l like about the show/game is the factions. If the apocalypse occurred in 2003…11 years after Ruby Ridge, 10 years after the Waco siege…2 years after 9/11 and the start of the Iraq war, there would definitely be a split between religious fundamentalists and military juntas. They had a conversation that was cut for now, right when Ellie passes Joel when he was playing the guitar on his porch, they had a conversation where she was ready to forgive him and move on, the night before he died. They want to make it seem like it didn't happen for now but it will later on in the show, it did happen.

There's an ign video up that plays the Joel death scene side by side. I picked up on a lot of bad shit about that scene when I watched standalone, but side by side makes it a sad kek. They butchered it heavy in the show with the only positive being the punching imo but then that's offset by the fact show abby doesn't have muscles anymore.

The acting is atrocious though, but not bella for me, but Pedro. He phoned that in hard and partly its the softer Joel direction he's taken with the character.
