Skyfall was astroturfed due to the Olympics and Barbara bribing half the industry to prop it up because of Sam Mendes doing James Bond. That's how little regard she had for the character. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are the best possible producers for Bond, given their clout and experience. Amazon just pays for the movie's production. Doesn't matter if they fucked up some fantasy IP that was popular 20 years ago. Bond is 10000x more important and they won't fuck it up. At most, you'll get GoldenEye 2.0 like how most franchise remakes take one past movie and remake it with different names so they can ease people into the rebooted continuity.

A treatment was written. It details the overall plot along with a refined, updated backstory for Bond. Controversially, he's no longer a Navy commander and is an Afghan war veteran (2010's era) and entered the 00 program very early on in his life. The plot concerns a turncoat MI6 operative assumed dead with a vendetta against the world who forms a rogue troupe made up of other spies and operatives with the goal of inciting world revolution through chaos and terrorism. The MacGuffin is a nuclear coding device. It's a bit generic but allows for room to be fleshed out down the line.

Him being a Naval commander is important to the character in the books as it informs a lot about him as a person but useless bit of info in the movies. Plus, if the new guy is early 30's, no way he's realistically a Navy commander. Plus that position means fuck all in the 2020's. Making him a war vet turned spook is better.
