spend so much on one single film that it needs a gorillion dollars just to break even.
it doesn’t make that much
im ruined!! Cinema is le dying!!!!
Why do they do this? Over and over and over.
I had a cost cutting idea. They would pair a couple of much (much) cheaper films to every blockbuster. The cheaper coatrider films would be able to use all the props and sets made for the blockbuster. It would only cost a little bit more, but now you have more movies out there, hopefully to earn more dollars. Maybe your blockbuster flops, but the coatriders are moderately successful or one is even a hit and that helps eat the costs of the flop. If they flop too, what does it matter if you are 10 million more in the hole now when you are already down 500 million?
For example, the cheaper coatrider films paired with the horrible Napoleon movie would be a slowburn, cerebral biopic about Talleyrand and the other would be a slapstick comedy about a napoleonic conscript. They would look higher budget than they are because they would be using the high quality sets, props, and costumes from the Napoleon movie, and they could take artistic risks because they are so (relatively) cheap and the financial risk is shared between three movies.
Thoughts?
