Says the show is also written for 'a massive television audience.'
Ryan Condal defends his HOTD writing
Says the show is also written for 'a massive television audience.'
But, it is. I watched it, and I'm pretty massive. Okay, I'm not that massive, I could eat a little more, but, I'm massive enough.
Are are they talking about massive length-wise? I'm 5'6 does that count?
erm george you dont get it we have to have rheanyra and alicent meet 50 times, and we have to have alicent betray her family and character arc because... WE JUST HAVE TO OKAY!!!! STOP BEING SO UNREASONABLE!!!!
"I will simply say, I made every effort to include George in the adaptation process. I really did. Over years and years. And we really enjoyed a mutually fruitful, I thought, really strong collaboration for a long time. But at some point, as we got deeper down the road, he just became unwilling to acknowledge the practical issues at hand in a reasonable way.
They're getting rid of our xirfu?
I don’t know… Condal is a retard but this does sound likely.
he just became unwilling to acknowledge the practical issues at hand in a reasonable way.
What 'practical issues' forced Condal to completely butcher key story moments just to replace them with bizarre out of place sex scenes or closet lesbian drama?
8 episodes for season 3? Pathetic
Helaena and her kids were the one thing that made GRRM mad. That’s funny.
Good roderik cast
I had to change it to make it appealing to a massive audience
They are trained to say this stupid and arrogant line with a straight face
He claims that they couldn't make Blood and Cheese work the way it did in the book because of child actors being challenging to use (not allowed to make them act after a certain number of hours, need extremely close parent supervision)
No excuse as to why Alicent is absent from the scene and banging Criston Cole instead (other than haha wouldn't that be soo awkward and funny is Helena walked in on them haha)
or why Blood and Cheese were written as comedic and stupid retards
or why they removed the Sophie's Choice aspect
or why they made Helena not depressed afterwards
or why there's no lingering impact of the event, everyone basically forgets it happened
Helaena and her kids were the one thing that made GRRM mad
Plenty more made him mad. If he's the guy to get pissy over HBO dragons not adhering to proper dragon feeding rituals from the books, he's the guy to get pissy over all the shitty changes. He just didn't voice them all because he knows it'd nuke his relationship with HBO forever, and he's still working with them on other projects.
He claims that they couldn't make Blood and Cheese work the way it did in the book because of child actors being challenging to use (not allowed to make them act after a certain number of hours, need extremely close parent supervision)
This claim by Condal is total bullshit and falls apart if you have even the semblance of a brain.
definitely they could have made it work, condall just didn't want to
Will be 8 for the 4th and final season too most likely.
Bump
For me, it's more about hating Sara Hess.
not enough agonizing birthing scenes
hbo doesn't care about women's lived experiences
Condal is a racist bitch. Someone should throat punch him.
I'd rather wait 5 years and watch a 16 episode season.
And I think as a showrunner, I have to keep my practical producer hat on and my creative writer, lover-of-the-material hat on at the same time. At the end of the day, I just have to keep marching not only the writing process forward, but also the practical parts of the process forward for the sake of the crew, the cast, and for HBO, because that's my job. So I can only hope that George and I can rediscover that harmony someday. But that's what I have to say about it."
God what a faggot
Condal addresses the post for the first time, telling EW he didn't see it himself but was told about it
So he didn't even read GRRMs post either he just heard the sensationalized version of it and decided to publicly frame him as some entitled retard who doesn't understand what's practical in a TV setting because he took issue with Condals absolutely mentally retarded creative decisions
The first 4 seasons of GoT weren't this fucking stupid and trusted the audiences ability to keep up with a large cast of characters so why can't HOTD? What a nigger
Apparently season 2 and 3 of Dunk and egg might be filmed back to back so there’s that.
They are going to butcher those beautiful short stories so much.
apparently the first season will be good since george has talked it up a lot, whereas late GoT he was silent on and HotD he actively shat on
God what a faggot
Speak for yourself you anime avatarfagging faggot.
ugh don't you people get it?! we write our show for mental retards
Cool.
I am already expecting the Dornish girl to be coal black, so that will be acceptable. They better not fuck with the other characters though.
You don't have to watch the show. You don't have to talk about it. You don't have to promote this garbage for free.
Fuck this. I was onboard with season one even with the niggers, but they completely lost it with the next one and then taking 2 years between each season to top it off. This had to potential to be incredible if they made it back when you werent forced to jam niggers into your medieval fantasy shows.
Get off Anon Babble Condal you've got quirky marvel quips for characters played by tranny e-celebs to write
I'll probably pirate it. I like talking about GRRM's work. I'm on the eternal Anon Babble thread.
melees was a beloved dragon
blood and cheese was propaganda we want people to sympathize with them
ah well we can’t add extra kids but here’s a scene with baby Aegon and Viserys
leabian. Kissing. After she told her how she was abused.
what if the smallfolk…threw food at the lady who’s son was murdered!
Bravo!!!
George is suddenly impractical, but he made the world, plot, characters, concepts, and the entire conceit which they cannot replicate accurately or to his quality. Yet, of course, he is the one who is to blame for the bad writing.
Season 2 was really shit
Ignore the canon lesbians from the source material
Ignore the strong black girl from the source material
Ignore the underlying themes of the ruling classes all being just variations on the same evil and tyranny
BRAVO CONDAL AND HESS
The first 4 seasons of GoT weren't this fucking stupid and trusted the audiences ability to keep up with a large cast of characters so why can't HOTD?
To be fair back then every season had a whole book of material it was based on, HOTD is an entire show based on just a part of a single book
Call me crazy, but I think the reign of Jaehaerys would have made a great animated show. 20 episodes tops. Full control over how the cast visually ages. No limit on dragons or vistas.
Even without the nogs and season 2 HOTD is still slop for the retards who thought season 6 and 7 were peak GoT.
This had to potential to be incredible if they made it back when you werent forced to jam niggers into your medieval fantasy shows.
This is still true because that was also a time where the goal of TV wasn't to blend into the background for people on their phones
Ignore the underlying themes of the ruling classes all being just variations on the same evil and tyranny
This is the funniest part, it's reframed as team patriarchy vs team girlboss and we're supposed to not give a shit about the smallfolk at all, the most extreme example being Rhaenys literally crushing peasants beneath her in what's supposed to be an epic empowering moment. Then in season 2, probably due to the criticism of season 1, they make a point nearly every episode of showing Rhaenyra actually really cares about the smallfolk while Aegon hates them, just in case you weren't sure who the objective good guys are supposed to be. Condal is such a hack
I feel like GoT is more about realistic characters and their interactions at its core than visuals, so making it animated rather than live-action would take away a lot of what makes it great in favor of focussing on the less important aspects.
Almost nothing happened during the entire season I was pretty close to deleting my pirated copy of HOTD but I still watched it like the good little goy I am. Fucking hell this show is forgettable.
or why Blood and Cheese were written as comedic and stupid retards
What the fuck is blood and cheese and why do you think it's not a retarded, comedic stupid thing to read

It leads to really fucking stupid scenarios too.
Rhaenyra is blockading King's Landing, thereby starving the smallfolk
She smuggles food through her own blockade.
Normies wouldn’t want to watch a Game of Thrones show solely about politics with little action so it would never happen
Rhaenyra is blockading King's Landing, thereby starving the smallfolk
She smuggles food through her own blockade.
Wait what, how did I never realise this kek. Just as dumb as her personally sneaking into King's landing
I can kinda sympathize with showrunners and studio heads when it comes to normies. They will tell you they love one thing, that one thing makes the show great, and when you give them that thing, they get bored. Then they will basedjak whenever some stupid fucking action happens.
Remember Burlington Bar
To be fair back then every season had a whole book of material it was based on
Totally irrelevant, we're talking about them cutting characters because they think the audience is too stupid to keep track of them all. I'm not demanding the same level of quality early GoT had, that would be unreasonable with the less fleshed out source material they have to go off, but that's not an excuse to omit Maelor and butcher the context of blood and cheese (which is GRRM's complaint that Condal is responding to) because it's not practical for a "mass audience". Early GoT didn't dumb things down nearly that much and still managed to become the most popular show on the planet
Yeah ok you got a point. We literally had a season where nothing happened in half the episodes so cutting characters clearly wasn't a good move
I was a two-pump-chump with this one. Didn't make it past the beginning monologue.
In season 1 or 2?
Gays went from writing with a gay sensibility/metaphor, to "this plot belongs to LGBT"
I'm surprised they've managed to restrain themselves on Rhaenicent so far. S3 maybe? Some lesbian action when Rhaenyra controls the capital.
To be fair, Blood and Cheese was always retarded
What made him mad?
Funny considering the Dance is poorly written to begin with.
nearly every episode of showing Rhaenyra actually really cares about the smallfolk while Aegon hates them
Where? I remember Aegon rooting for the smallfolk but Rhaenyra seems to ignore them from what I recall.
Ignore that its Aegons fault the blockade is happening bro
Aegons fault the blockade
Whut? In the dialogue of the show, they blame Rhaenyra, let alone in any IRL rational analysis.
lmao
it was HER TURN
FUCK. You just reminded me about the showrunners making explicit Hilary parallels in interviews.
worked out for hilary just a little better than rhaenyra lol
>Ignore the strong black girl from the source material
This is the most hilarious part to me. GRRM gave them a layup and instead of adapting Nettles they just cut her out and gave her storyline to Daemons daughter. Yjk it's because they didn't want her wrecking their fanfic Daemon x Rhaenyra ship
Then in season 2, probably due to the criticism of season 1, they make a point nearly every episode of showing Rhaenyra actually really cares about the smallfolk while Aegon hates them, just in case you weren't sure who the objective good guys are supposed to be. Condal is such a hack
Rhaenyra literally has guards forcibly boxing in paesant within the dragonpit right after she quickly scampers to safety off as soon as shit hits the fan. Everybody (guards included) dies horribly and the episode ends with the supposedly triumphant and heroic OP pic. Talk about tone deafness.
HoTD2 writing is beyond retardation
Rhaenyra's response also only reinforces the motif of her being a shallow and petty tyrant in the book, which is wholly absent in the show.
Show Rhaenyra just seems like a dumb bitch, to be honest.
read georges other short stories they are all excellent!!!
Nice try George
what practical issues formed them to film Blood and Cheese the way they did?
What practical issues force 4 legged dragon sigils?
absolute nonsense lmao
They've made this accurate to the books but by accident lmao
u are missing out!
Sepultura??
I'm surprised they've managed to restrain themselves on Rhaenicent
what
not sure what sepultura is thats just an old cover for probably his most famous short story sandkings, i shill his short stories often because they are really good but basically none of the asoiaf fans read his other works (which they should)
So my job is, I take the script and I say "ok, how can we add more gayness.".
This is it. They aren't even trying to hide that they want us gone.
Why doesn't GRRM grow a spine and tell HBO to stop fucking up his work?
They really aren't though. Sandkinks is ok but the dude has always been mediocre.
George, does HBO pay you in sausages?
thats weird that most other authors praise his past work and other litheads do as well, not to mention all of the awards his short stories won but ty for your input!
Rhaenyra and Alicent lesbian ship.
Which practical concerns prevented them from accurately casting the white gods of racial purity?
Not being able to get emmys.
What the fuck, QRD on the plot?
One thing i liked about this mess is how they've subtly brought the world closer to how it's described in the books. The Iron Throne being not nearly as tidy and conventional as it is in GoT, the Lannister helmets, riverlords actually existing etc.
a song for lya is based in georges thousand world universe ( a scifi universe far in earths future and the fabric upon which many of his other short stories are apart of), two psychically sensitive people (lyanna and robert) are sent to a planet humans have recently colonized where an ancient alien race that is technologically unadvanced inhabits. these aliens have a sort of suicidal death cult that has kept them from advancing despite being a very ancient race, the humans that have begun colonizing this planet have slowly been converting to this suicidal religion and robert and lyanna, who are psy sensitive, have been sent there to uncover why. i will leave the rest vague as to not to spoil but all of georges thousand worlds stories are really strange in a very GRRM way, also there are a lot of parallels and themes from his short stories that are later brought into asoiaf, which is fun to pick up on, would love to see some of these stories adapted
Tuf Voyaging is my favorite, but yeah Sand Kings, the one with portraits, The Great and Powerful Turtle all good stuff
ignoring themes
This is because the most entertaining part of the book is the central conceit of it being a history book derived from several sources which are compared by the author.
yea tuf is great, i really would love some sort of adaptation of tuf and the thousand worlds as some sort of anthology series
You know, these modern " creatives" absolutely suck at thinking creatively. Why can makers from decades ago with fractions of their budgets make more compelling media. And then they whine to the press.... Pathetic.
Your dick is 5' 6"?!
House of the Dragon veterans Clare Kilner, Andrij Parekh, and Loni Peristere, as well as Nina Lopez-Corrado (The Night Agent) will direct the eight episodes.
Before the cavernous yawning need for content, no one gave a shit about television writers outside of die hard fans of particular shows.
Now, writers are just another avenue to drive engagement through anger and cringe posting. Writers can directly participate in culture war bullshit now. Before they were the unsung heros of society shaping the minds of the masses. Now they are crusaders, caped heroes who carry the world (and the entire production for your movie) on their backs
