It's insane to me that disney is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars in 2025 to have more capeshit in 2027. I tell myself that they must have solid data showing it is worth it, but I have to simply trust them in this, in the same way you basically have to trust your government "knows what it's doing"- which is clearly not a very tenable foundation for any thought or feeling. I feel deep down that disney is ruining itself, separately from ruining the IP's themselves, and is just going through the motions like a person caught in a loop.

Like a dementia patient having a moment of clarity, the company is thinking, "don't worry martha, we'll bail on capeshit and go to video games when the well goes dry"- but they are simply going to produce video game capeshit. The longer they go without acknowledging the need for a new system, or deciding on what else they can actually do with a script, the worse it will be with the video game capeshit. This is nonsense. The simple reality is they don't own Jill so they created a character very similar to Jill as a replacement. The reason Jill's actress wasn't in Extinction was scheduling conflicts. This was a constant problem with the series because Sony refused to pay the actors for multi-film contracts.

They were never going to make an RE movie with characters from the games in lead roles. I don't get why this is so hard to understand. It's incredibly straightforward. They don't own those characters, so they're not going to have them as leads. End of discussion. That's why Zach Cregger's new RE film has a new lead character called Bryan.

if you listen to the director/producer commentary for all those movies with paul anderson and jeremy bolt, especially the first 3 - paul goes into detail about being a big fan of the games, playing them over and over but understanding that what works in a game that can take hours to complete doesn't work in a movie that is an hour and a half long and that people who go to see the movies wouldn't want to have a 1 to 1 version of the game where they know what would happen

NTA but the RE movies are fun, even the shitty Netflix one. The best video game movies are MK and Silent Hill. The sequel to Silent Hill shows us exactly why actually using game lore to make a movie is garbage. Silent Hill fans will seethe endlessly, but it's probably the closest to a video game adaptation we've ever had and it was outright garbage.

RE movies may be fun in a Fast & Furious way but my point is that they would be better with the videogame cast and that was cuntblocked by Milla. The problem with these movies is that even when they get the characters and atmosphere right, like SH did, they fuck the script.

It shouldn't be that difficult, just take ONE fucking game in the series, understand what's the story is really about, keep the characters faithful, take the pivotal moments and write around this. The first Silent Hill was an abysmal mess because it ignored all of this. The director had such a boner for SH2 and his own ideas he changed the father for a mother but kept the female cop, this + the villains being mostly women led to a near all female cast, which forced him to hire Sean Bean and that other guy to enact a dumb sub-plot that leads nowhere. All of this because he "felt that the connection between a child and her mother was more convincing than daugther + father", it was a dumb small change that bloated the script. Then you have the SH2 boner, he inserted Pyramid Head and the Nurses in a story where they have no place since they represent the sexual urges of the main character of the second game just because they look cool. And finally you have his "own ideas", like that dumb scene playing Ring of Fire from Johnny Cash. Some people may love the first Silent Hill movie but for me it's fucking garbage, second one is just amateur hour and better forgotten.

That's what I call Holywood Narcissism. It's not hard to adapt a videogame, it's just hard when you are a dumbfuck and Pedowood is full of them.
