Sorry chuds, your hero doomed all of humanity

Sorry chuds, your hero doomed all of humanity.

Our

Sure, after your threw out every other writer.

Still doesn't address the fact that even if you do get a miracle cure, how do the Fireflies mass produce a vaccine with the scant resources they have, let a lone distribute it? They were shown to be on their last legs at the end of P1, and also at war with Fedra who consider them to be terrorists. A cure also doesn't solve the problem of fleshing eating monsters (a clicker will still tear your face off even if you can't get infected) and 20+ years of warring factions and no infrastructure. A cure isn't a magic reset button, and humanity was in the process of rebuilding society via pocket civilisations like Jackson anyway.

I don't give a fuck what this guy says

why is this news? It was known since 2013 when the game released

you're just coping

don't think about it too hard, they didn't themselves
they should have just cut to two buttons saying 'magically save humanity' and 'save the sexy girl,' that's the choice you're supposed to be making

What a fucking retard. It's clearly left ambiguous in the first game that there wasn't a guarantee. All you have to do is examine the scientist's notes and tape recordings in the facility to know they tried extracting a cure before to no success and even Ellie's case wasn't a guarantee. This is like ridley Scott's shit retcon of Deckard being a replicant.

God I hate dogshit hacks who can't write properly.

dick sucking ass fags

was our science a little shaky?

yes but we were only pretending to be retarded

Die

save the sexy girl

sarah was already dead by then

no it wasn't, he's a retconning jew faggot

TLOU OG was not his game

Literally anyone with a functioning brain understood it that way. Chuds are unironically borderline braindead.

we have a girl with an immunity should we do extensive testing and trials to narrow down why she's imm-

nah let's carve her up lole

They knew why she was immune.

This is why modern writing sucks. The author always needs to guide you through the morality of the situation instead of focusing on the flawed humanity of the characters and left the ambiguity of the story speak for itself. Nothing but hack writing.

Everyone knew this 12 years ago when the game came out on PS3...

The reatrded audience is at fault here. You have people who hate the writer so much they created their own headcanon in their heads.

It's over a decade old. Everyone understands it

Manufacture a cure. Manufacture a cure. With what? With what infrastructure, chemicals, equipment, etc? You're gonna make this miracle from the decaying rubble of America? What sort of retards are these... oh, yeah, writers.

Besides, it's not a cure. You're gonna pump a clicker with fungus growing out his skull full of this and he's gonna revert to "human?"

we have a girl with an immunity should we do extensive testing and trials to narrow down why she's imm-

they did tests and they know why she's immune. It's literally in the game. Internet made people so fucking retarded it's surreal. When some hot takes gain traction among retards, half of the internet will repeat them ad nauseam despite the fact the actual thing (game, book, movie, show) directly disproves them. At this point chuds are not talking about the actual Last of us game but about some chud version of it molded from retarded opinions and hallucinations (like that famous tape that doesn't exist)

even with that retarded reasoning i would still save game ellie, and i would have put a bullet in show ellie as soon as i laid eyes on her, she's obviously some kind of mutant

Why can't you just stop raping kids?

Literally none of this is relevant. Man, you guys really lack media literacy.
It's basically the trolley problem. What's more important, saving the person you love or saving humanity. The game doesn't even judge Joel for his actions.

I've never played this jew slop and and I will never watch the show either. People who invest themselves in media created by people who hate them are subhuman

I love how much seething yhis is still causing 12 years later.
Joel made a selfish rash decision, that's the point.

there's thousands of labs and werehouses filled with sealed equipment and materials, are you retarded or something?

saving humanity

A little fucking late and humanity is shown to have survived and is rebuilding.

cant even get a girl across the state

their people are getting killed left and right

entire operation is upended by a single man

somehow has the resources to mass produce and distribute a vaccine

Cuckman really proving he cant fucking write a story worth a damn, TLOU part 1 was literally saved by people reining in Cuckmans retarded ideas

The real problem with the show is how every little mushroom zombie is fit and healthy

Americans are fat as fuck. More than half of them are overweight, a large chunk of them are so fucking fat they can barely walk for more than 5 minutes. Where are all of those zombies?

Is it supposed to be a cure or a vaccine? They use the terms interchangeably so much that I'm confident the writers don't even know the difference.

No, it's written poorly, simple as. They accidentally made Fireflies into retards and then pretended that there was never any basis for that impression.
The fact that they have to expound on this decade later is just proof of how badly they fucked it up.
Videogame writing in a nutshell.
Shitty ass Children of Men counterfeit that loses any semblance of coherency the moment they leave their second act.

They couldn’t even clean an operating room

So the cure will just prevent you from turning in case you get bit? How is that gonna save humanity? How many people have encounters with zombies where you get bit, but get away?

It means you can breathe the spores, the actual threat of the setting (which the show sort of forgot about)

why is this news? It was known since 2013 when the game released

In the original game the Fireflies are portrayed as idealistic fools that value those ideals over reality. They're dying out, act without thinking, inept and everything they've touched ends up in ruin. Within the context of the game the only reason to actually believe they could make the cure is because a few untrustworthy characters say they could. But why would you trust them.

It's ambiguous at best, and that's begin generous.

Yes, it's bad writing but as the seething leftist in this thread keeps saying it's just a turn your brain off and go with it kinda thing.

One of the best games I played on Youtube
Any reason to watch the show?

Cyanied_gas.jpg - 960x800, 245.72K

Video games will never be art because the people who make them are tasteless.

People are still seething a decade later so Neil had to remind everyone the basic video game plot. Granted the unnecessary sequel did fuck it all up.

Spores are only found in old buildings and underground areas where you don't really need to go.

And breathing the spores doesn't sound like a good idea anyway. I wouldn't want that shit in my lungs even if I was immune.

no

They act without thinking, inept and everything they've touched ends up in ruin.

it's ambiguous

lol, it's not.

You propose that Joel acted rationally by murdering all of them and saving Ellie. That he did it not because of his feelings for her, but because he coldly calculated if the Fireflies could make a cure or not.
It's pretty clear what was actually intended by the writers.

turn of your brain

It's a game about mushroom zombies.

Just a reminder that Pedo Pascale is troon enabler
Anything hes in should be boycotted

And if you told me Joel create a vaccine and distribute it to the entire world I wouldn't believe it.

Okay what about Joel murdering 30 people to save one person (who would have wanted to die)? He's the morally correct side in this scenario?

The game doesn't even judge Joel for his actions.

having him humiliated, beaten, and killed by a bull dyke makes it pretty clear what the writers thought of him

How fucking DARE he not be a transphobe like me!

Didn't they try to execute him the moment he wasn't going to play along? The Fireflies deserved to be annihilated regardless for not turning Ellie over the government with better resources and facilities.

nooo we have to risk losing a possible cure on a two person country wide trek... because!

lol, it's not.

Within the context the game it clearly is. Replay the first game. The fireflies are incompetent fanatics.

You propose that Joel acted rationally by murdering all of them and saving Ellie. That he did it not because of his feelings for her, but because he coldly calculated if the Fireflies could make a cure or not.

I didn't propose that at all. I didn't bring Joel up at all, his motives are his own. But how the player feels about his decision is directly related to how inept the Fireflies are portrayed by the game and how believable, or in this case unbelievable the idea that their cure is feasible.

The game does a poor job presenting the Fireflies as an organization that would actually be able to pull off creating a cure. Which is a where the ambiguity comes from. The fact that the writer has to come in after the fact and be like 'yeah they totally could have done it' and had to retcon events in part2 just strengthens this idea.

Why did Joel never fuck Ellie and turn her straight?

How many people have encounters with zombies where you get bit, but get away?

plenty of people in both games. Also, you're immune to spores which is a massive deal. Vaccine would slowly but surely save the world. Number of new infected would drastically drop and you can start clearing the world

Joel wouldn't be able to handle this.

No man could.

No.

who would have wanted to die

Information given post factum, since Fireflies never find that out themselves because Ellie literally is never woken up in between passing out in the tunnel and waking up in Joel's car.

telling exactly what would have happened rather than keeping it ambiguous is the most interesting philosophical question

what?
not telling wether they can cure it is literally the most interesting way of doing, because it literally gives the audience a reason to discuss and give their own arguments

Ellie literally is never woken up in between passing out in the tunnel and waking up in Joel's car.

I wish this were the bigger complaint

don't think about it too hard, they didn't themselves

it's really great to have read the development history of the games and have it confirmed that Neil has basically no artistic vision and just pulls stuff out of his ass.

makes me much more relaxed about how Mazin is running the show. maybe he can make a functional story out of this shit and maybe he can't, but we can safely ignore anyone who thinks the games are perfect masterpieces that don't need any changes.

This is some "Yeah, Childs is the Thing" / "Deckard is a replicant" debilitant spoonfeeding.
What's next ? Telling us what was in the case in Pulp Fiction ?

Okay what about Joel murdering 30 people to save one person (who would have wanted to die)? He's the morally correct side in this scenario?

I'm not sure how morality plays into the competence of the Fireflies.
But they live in a post apocalyptic landscape where life is cheap and a terrorist organization just kidnapped and is about to murder his 'daugther' He's already murdered hundreds if not thousands of people 30 more isnt' gonna move the meter much.

still caring about this franchise or the characters

Theres the mistake

What about him killing Marlene then? He survived only thanks to her.

Here's a chance to save us... all of us. This is what we were after... what you were after. They asked me to kill the smuggler. I'm not about to kill the one man in this facility that might understand the weight of this choice. Maybe he can forgive me. Oh, I miss you, Anna. Your daughter will be with you soon.

No, it's written poorly, simple as. They accidentally made Fireflies into retards

I agree with this, but the position of the internet is still absurdly pro-Joel even given just TLOU game as produced.

you need to remember that Joel could have had a conversation with Ellie at any time about whether she would have been okay with it if the process of making a cure might kill her, but he didn't because he knew the answer would have been yes and he didn't want to think about it. you can tell he's resisting getting emotionally attached early in the story because he refers to her as "cargo" and that's why.

anyway, the scenario only works as a narrative conclusion if there IS some chance of a cure, because that's what makes Joel's decision meaningful. but Druckmann clearly failed to understand that leaving things open would just make people invent their preferred headcanon.

The whole midwit moral dilemma is utterly moot because the hospital shootout was pure self defense. The Fireflies were 100% going to kill Joel because he knew too much. You don't march a guy out of a building with none of his supplies or equipment unless you plan to put a bullet in his head the minute he's outside. That first guy was practically begging to get his dick shot off and fuck it, once you kill one you might as well mop up the rest to keep em off your back.

No, no, no, it can't be any kind of a big or medium deal anymore. Everything Fireflies did could not be interpreted as malicious or lackadaisical by the player or Joel character anymore. He, and by extension the player, OBJECTIVELY should have known that vivisecting her on the spot was the right thing to do. Citizen Kane of videogames over there.

The Fireflies were 100% going to kill Joel because he knew too much.

See:

Well they buttstroked the guy trying to resuscitate her. Maybe they could have waited and asked her.

this whole incel retardness about last of us has very simple explanation. Some people just can't handle that the character in a fictional story from a fucking video game got his hands dirty so they retcon it in their heads to make him fully 100% clean. Instead of having fun with it and pondering the scenario in a safe space of a video game they act like they themselves denied the world a zombie ouchie. It didn't happen for real. You didn't actually doom humanity to save your daughter (which is a very good reason btw because daughter is more important). It happened on your ps3 or ps4 console, it was all just pixels on the screen. Something to think about, without real life consequences - the main point of storytelling. Love so strong you are willing to fuck the whole world for it. The coolest thing about this game and you're removing it because your pea sized brains can't handle it. You claim to be fans of this game but you're making it so much worse with your stupidity

yeah he had no choice but to fight his way up to the operating theatre, it was all self-defense haha.

Fireflies make Umbrella look competent lmao

That's four pallets of lab equipment all packed up and ready to go. Now - big question is what do we do with all you guys.

They say the tainted batch needs to be put down. You know what I say? I say screw that. Who made a bigger sacrifice than you, right?

If anyone deserves to run free out there it's-- Hey, easy. Agh... Shit. Oh no. It bit me. Oh my god...

"Damn, sure glad we didn't tangle with them monkeys."

t. Joel

Citizen Kane has plenty of pretty stupid moments. Adults generally don't care about stuff like this.

it's almost a distraction to still talk about the end of Part 1, because Part 2 is a much, much clumsier and dumber attempt to engage with some of these ambiguities, and where (unlike for Part 1) the confusion really is mostly Naughty Dog's fault.

TLOU OG was not his game

it was secretly written by Hideo Kojima

this thread exists precisely because TLOU OG wasn't written that well either.

the story where Joel is fully justified and the FFs (including Marleen) are all dumb and deserve to be shot only makes sense as the initial release of an untested IP, where the main character needs to be protected at all costs so the players will feel rewarded by the ending.
Naughty Dog weren't thinking about a sequel back then and it goes without saying that a game company doesn't care about literary value, so of COURSE the early version of the game played it safer than Neil would now.

lol this guy left a knee deep trail of bodies across the continental United States better just needlessly antagonize him what's the worst that could happen lmao

That's why on release this tagline was their "Oblivion with guns" when it came to article monikers?

Adults generally don't care about stuff like this.

They only constantly compare their shitty game stories to it in an attempt to come off mature.
Also, I don't remember Welles a decade later reassessing the plot of the movie because half of the viewers continued to misinterpret what he wrote due to a giant chunk of it coming out unintentionally retarded.
But sure, adult male, go off with those unspecified stupid moments.

It's clearly left ambiguous in the first game that there wasn't a guarantee.

it's not ambigous at all. The previous attempts at cure failed because they didn't have an immune person. But once they have Ellie the tapes are clear this is a breakthrough and a final piece of the puzzle. They are certain they could do it and there's nothing in the game suggesting they are schizos or lying to themselves about it

in TLOU when you're not in a cutscene you're functionally the same as the Doomslayer. in a cutscene you are a multifaceted creation of the writers with flaws whose motives (that they wrote) can be questioned (by them).

it's part of the problem of normalizing moviegames instead of games centering the player and treating game storytelling as a medium of the player's self expression.

that's actually a great point lol

Joel's daughter is killed by the military in an attempt to control the outbreak. Joel lives through the end of the world and knows that his daughter didn't need to die. She only died because others believed that killing her was necessary.

So when the Fireflies say that Ellie needs to die to create a cure, why should Joel believe they know better than the military? Even if they do know better, why should he believe them? Even if Ellie is volunteering it doesn't matter, she's a child. He was justified in killing every one of them as they were people who were complicit in the attempted murder of a child.

Joel had learnt for himself what was right and wrong. He'd seen what others would do when they believed they were right and he simply didn't care any more.
