Thing. I like space as a setting more but enjoy thing better
The Thing. It's not even a hard choice.
Alien spawned an entire franchise so it's objectively better.
Alien
understandable
They're both very good but Alien is my favorite horror movie so gonna have to go with that one
The Thing (2011) with my wonderful wife MEW.
The Thing for sure. Both are really good and infinitely rewatchable though
let's see
has tits
no tits
welp, aliumn it is
The thing is kino. Alien is ok, Alien Isolation is kino too.
Alien.
The Thing is all dudes.
Alien has women.
I'm not gay. Simple as.
Based
the thing
I enjoyed The Thing more as 1:1 standalone movies. But Alien 1 spawned a franchise that as a whole is worth more than The Thing
the thing is a franchise too. there are comics, a second movie, and a video game that just recently got remastered.
brown hands typed these
Gay boy
To the common consumer there was ONE lame sequel to the Thing and that’s it. Nobody cares about comics or games. This is /tv. Alien made a huge franchise that also crossed over with predator. It’s a superior franchise. The thing is a better one shot movie compared to alien. And maybe the thing could have also made a whole franchise, but carpenter and Ridley are different.
nah the thing is great because its a one and done. no milking that shit for 40 years and most of it is garbage.
I pick Siggy's bush.
None. They're both overrated
The Thing easily
The Thing, easy.
Alien>Thing>Terminator>Predator
the thing has one god-tier film with one ok but unnecessary prequel, while alien has one god-tier film followed by a bunch of sub-par attempts to live up to its greatness. i'd rather take the thing since it isn't as inflated as alien is lol.
while alien has one god-tier film followed by a bunch of sub-par attempts to live up to its greatness
whilst this is true, the first film - Alien - isn't exactly bad either, in fact I would definitely rank it above The Thing prequel
Aliens is better.
I would like to see The Thing and the xenomorph switch movies and see how the people would deal with them in their respective movies.
If I could have characters, effects, monster, actors, and plot from The Thing but with the set design and general aesthetic of Alien that may very well be my perfect movie
sub par attempts
Aliens and predator vs alien are fantastic sequels. The rest of the alien movies and Prometheus movies are at least 6/10. The thing sequels was a 4/10 on a good day
The Thing prequel was no worse than Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and Alien Covenant, and certainly better than both the AvP movies
the thing boys would survive I reckon, no android working against them. nostromo crew would be fucked.
Interesting thread. For me it's 100% Alien. Instant decision, not even close.
You can' actually believe this?? It's The Thing > Predator > Alien > Terminator by virtue of the rankings simply being:
The Thing
Predator
Aliens
Terminator
Terminator 2
Alien
Predator 2
Terminator 3
Prey
Alien: Romulus
AvP
Prometheus
The Thing (2011)
AvP: Requiem
Predators
Terminator: Salvation
Alien3
Alien: Resurrection
Alien: Covenant
Terminator: Genisys
Terminator: Dark Fates
The Predator
As you can see, with the exception of Shane Black's attempt to inside job the Predator franchise, the BOTTOM HALF of this list is rounded out by Alien and Terminator.
Thing. It took its layout seriously enough to where you can track where the Thing is scene by scene. Alien should have done the same. Both are 9/10 movies though.
The more I think about it, the more I think Alien may be a perfect movie. The ONLY parts that don't sit right with me are the shots actually showing the Alien and the janky effects cut when they're wiring up Ash's severed head, and that's just a matter of it being 1970's special effects. The plot, characters, production design, and brief glimpses into cosmic horror are fucking perfect. It's a damn fucking shame that they've now made so many movies trying to expand upon and explain everything, there's a beautiful mystery to the first movie.
In The Thing, the remaining survivors decide to destroy the base. This is because their only avenues of escape have been cut off, the base's heating systems have been sabotaged (dooming the humans anyway), and the creature is attempting to freeze in the ice. Blowing up the base will either kill it outright or drive the creature out so they can incinerate it with flamethrowers.
In Alien, the survivors decide to blow up the Nostromo. There's no actual given reason for them to do this. It's been suggested that in an earlier rendition of the script, the crew has a discussion about it and decides to detonate the engines because Ash tells them that it will eventually make its way to Earth if they simply abandon the ship. This never makes it to the movie for some reason so it's a glaring hole in an otherwise great movie; the characters are simply concerned with abandoning the ship and surviving, so why do they go through all the extra trouble to blow the ship up, costing two of them their lives in the process?
Van Leuwen was actually right, blowing up the M-Class Starfreighter was a stupid move.
THE THING WINS
Damn this is one of the worst lists I’ve ever seen. Aliens will never belong above Alien. T3 is not better than T: Salvation.
On the same level of the Thing is the 1970s version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
They set it for self destruct because they're super pissed at the company for setting them up, sending them to a planet with possible alien life and no warning, planting a spy onboard with secret orders to hinder them, and saying it's fine if they die as the top priority is bringing back any alien specimen. That was stupidly obvious so you should have seen it.
The thing.
Alien is a great movie but I dislike the juxtaposition of HR Giger fetish vagina penis fellatio machines with an otherwise really interest plot and characters.
It just seems a bit much where you have a blank space for an alien species in a cool movie and you fill it with Cunnilingus Hands that deposit an egg into you uwu.
It takes you out of it when you realize the bad guy you're supposed to be scared of is just a Swiss wet dream. Like we're doing a creative exercise of building suspense around the idea of biomechanical dicks that suck themselves.
The robot bad guy is cool. Cool twist when he's a good guy in Alien$. Not as good twist when haha jk he was a bad guy in between movies we didn't show it.
And it wasn't stated, mentioned, implied, or alluded to in any way in the movie. Wow!
Yeah shut the fuck up, retard.
Aliens is far superior, sorry you're such a tastelet
T3 is not better than T: Salvation.
oh, it's worse than I thought
Thing. Alien is great, but the Thing is the better film. I was going to say that the Thing's flaw is the special effects fall apart in the final confrontation, but that's true to a degree with Alien where it's obvious it's just a man in a rubber suit.
The Thing 2011
Prometheus 2012
kinography
Alien
what a handsome young man
The Thingy
Thing. But with that said Alien is the next best thing.
No, they blow it up because they tried killing it and failed spectacularly. It was nothing more than spite.
t.room temp iq
Movie? The thing
Creature? Alien
The Thing
