Just watched it with my gf. She's from clarksdale mississippi and ive been back with her twice do far. Half the town looks the exact same today.

Anyways weirdest part was the asian people having a southern accent. There's like 10 asian families in town since the 1920s and to this day they all still have thick asian accents and barely speak english. The other stuff is fairly accurate, there's still plenty of juke joints in town and across the delta.

Vampires were a bit much. I think the movie couldve been just as good if the mob showed up to get their money back. Theres Italians in clarksdale. Probably just less back then. The tonal shift really reminded me from from dusk til dawn but not quite as campy. The inclusion of the klan at the end was a bit much too. Climax already happened but here's some mortal racist white folks, much worse than vampires. Also movie felt like it should've ended a couple times. Also wouldve liked to know the vampires motivation more. Apparently Robert Johnson and the crossroads folklore inspired the movie. But that involved a guy selling his soul to the devil to play the blues.

We both have mixed feelings on the movie. It was pretty accurate with the blues history in the delta though.

This was ultimately a right wing pro capitalist movie. The vampires were Bernie bros trying to create a deracialized working class coalition to topple the system. But smoke and stack knew that the system didn’t need to be thrown out— it just needed some work. They utilize their business sense to ultimately take out the KKK. And then at the end the pastors boy pulled himself up by his bootstraps and started his own successful blues joint. So yeah this movie was about holding faith in the system, that through hard work you too can achieve your dreams. Don’t listen to the evil Bernie bros that try to tell you that the system is rigged!
