You know nothing of Sneed. To you Sneed is only a word.
It's overrated and underrated simultaneously.
This
its decent but it feels like it could and should have been way better
We'll never know because the studio mismanaged footage and send it away on a fucking crypt (shit you not) and when PWS found it, it was unsalvagable. Tragedy. Those lost 20 minutes really added to the film, allegedly.
HERE I COME MUTHAFUCKAZ
What could it really add though? Never felt anything was missing. My problem with it is mediocre cinematography and CGI
Is this film connected to warhammer 40k
fans have gone as far as adopting Event Horizon as an unofficial prequel to W40K
Not with those cartoonish stock punching sound effects, it doesn't.
Shut the fuck up reddit
Was this the one that turned into a monster movie in the end?
At the end while watching what's left of the ship get sucked into the black hole Starck utters "Miller..." Man that gets me.
Movie is not perfect. But the idea behind it, to reach hell during a FTL jump is beyond horrible.
Movie is not perfect
Indeed but the good outweighs the bad in this case.
to reach hell during a FTL jump is beyond horrible
It sits very comfortably in that "whoa dude what if" zone.
engine is a big spiky thing
no pen
WTF his explanation was bullshit
it's a warhammer 40 prequel.
I can't explain it, but you're right.
Like it's THE movie everybody brings up when someone talks about underrated sci fi movies.
I wanted to say "horrifying". It's pure horror.
it could be interpreted in this way, but literally nothing could ever confirm this
kinda like the movie "soldier" taking place in the same universe as blade runner
Just saw Pandorum (2009) to which it is compared and I have to rate Event Horizon lower.
Horizon was just a little too linear for me, and intentionally going for shock value that didn't really amount to anything in the end. Interesting premise, that experimental ship goes to Hell dimension or whatever, but after that there's nothing to do but slaughter the crew and try to escape like any haunted house horror flick. Liked Sam Neill's performance and and possession angle, (like 'Death Ship' (1980) with George Kennedy doing the same schtick), but the rest of the acting was pretty ass. I found Morpheus the most grating.
Needed something more, like a little more about or from the Hell dimension, or more of a sci-fi angle, twist, or something. It's like an
AND THEN THIS HAPPENS ...
AND THEN THIS HAPPENS ...
story most of time.
Pandorum is actual clever sci-fi by comparison, rather than just being horror in a sci-fi setting.
First half is great, second half is schlock.
So, the movie is the very definition of mid.
the scariest parts in the movie appear for literally split seconds
Nightmare fuel kino.
WTF IS THAT.
a dozen actors
sitting in make up chairs for hours
thousands in props and setting up shots
hours of footage
99.9% gets cut
i think at that point i'd just quit making movies
This
I was expecting it to be amazing due to the hype on here and it's simply decent
this
it's the highest rated "unknown" cult classic scifi movie. very weird.
kinda but you're probably thinking of sunshine
it's a shame we won't ever get to see all the stuff cut from it
Ah, that's right.
So it's "just right". Thanks goldilocks
that kind of shit happens more than you'd think
uncut version never
I can't watch this or even think about it without feeling a sense of loss at its wasted potential.
I think the real fucked thing is there are probably other ways to do it, but hell/demons took advantage of a weak man at the turn of the century when humanity was most needy and thus least discerning. So its probably not the case that hell jumps are eternally necessary, but rather that they are institutionalized by well-meaning but ultimately treacherous people.
Pandorum is good but the root cause is completely mundane, its just cabin fever space sickness. The twist is cool but besides that its not as philosophically interesting as the existence of hell.
Wtf happened on that ship, bros
Just an average night in Portland
kek
idk what is it about his flick lads thats so comfy along with the 7th gate
you mean 9th gate?
No, not the final in the trilogy. The first one where Johnny Depp is mostly just doing his day job dealing in rare books, and Balkan is running his media empire.
Right? It's pure comfy kino.
this was the last transmission sent by the crew
*hellish noises play*
I think he meant 7 Samurai
What could it really add though?
Character development and pacing.
it's comfy in that it reminds me of the year 1997 which was a comfy time
but the root cause is completely mundane
It's not really the premise, it's how you use it. Think of how 'Primer' (2004) is "just a couple of guys accidentally invent a time machine", but it's much more than just that.
I was totally the target demographic for Event Horizon because I've been obsessed with this other film since I saw it as a kid:
youtu.be
Spoiler: Old rusted Nazi ghost ship is floating around the open ocean decades after the war, like it has a mind of its own ramming unsuspecting ships in the middle of the night, then tormenting survivors who board. Weird shit happens and survivors are picked off one-by-one as shit goes from creepy to increasingly overt horror. Blood coming out of showers, guy gets dropped into the cargo hold full of dead, rotting Jews, etc. George Kennedy, Captain of a sunken cruise ship gets increasingly possessed by - and possessive of - the ship and eventually goes full-metal Nazi.
First rate afternoon television for 80's kids that should sound vaguely familiar. I don't think I was the only one obsessed with it.
Pretty sure it at least partially inspired Event Horizon, Triangle, and probably a dozen other films. Worth watching for historical progenitor context if nothing else. Good thing about it was that it wasn't too literal about the 'ghost ship' thing like a lot of other films where they do that gay crap. An inexplicably deserted ship with a bit of creepy crap going on is all you need to set the tone. So wouldn't want Horizon to do that either, but still needed to give us something more.
*The Prodigy - Funky Shit starts playing*
Maggots? On my spaceship?
Also Captain Millers "we are leaving" scene is rare for a horror script which I liked.
Ha, just realised tagline in 'Death Ship' trailer is, "Your holiday in Hell", and references 'Hell' more than once:

What an uncanny coincidence.
Also Captain Millers "we are leaving" scene is rare for a horror script which I liked.
It's a laugh moment that genuinely works, the footage of the previous crew losing their minds and the former captain holding his eyeballs is so shocking, that reaction is the only reasonable one.
send it away on a fucking crypt
what
He's wrong, the longer/gorier cut was stored in a Transylvanian salt mine.
Why is it always stuff that makes you feel afraid of space?
It's never something nice and edifying, it's always some absurd thing happens and everyone dies or there is some evil alien that wants to kill every body.
It's never something nice and edifying
It's a horror movie, if you want something like that, watch Contact.
It's a lazy shortcut. Your alternative requires actually talented writing & direction.
Feel good space travel is for reddit faggots
when they found the Challenger crew's bodies and opened up their helmets they resembled hamburger meat
Sleep tight!

It is brilliant. But I like this.
Never seen this. Please tell me the little trash can buddy doesn't die.
