Which kino is Verhoeven's best?
Which kino is Verhoeven's best?
Star Ship Troopers. For its gritty depiction of war and satire of the politics behind it.
Starship Troopers is seriously lightning in a bottle.
Robo. Especially the director's cut with all the extra-violency stuff in it.
Robo or basic instinct for me
robocop > starship troopers > total recall
they're all fucking great though
Showgirls
I agree with this post, Robocop and Troopers are really close though
Robocop is the stronger film between it and Total Recall, Starship Troopers is ruined by its room temperature IQ fanbase
Robocop>Troopers>Recall
This is correct and valid and i will brook no adjustments to it. Good day.
Starship Troopers > Robocop > Total Recall
But they are all great and it's cool that one guy made such a great "trilogy" before he started making horny movies about women who hate each other kek
Showgrills. I'm being completely serious too. That movie is a masterpiece.
Why do you think this, Anon
Robocop has more compelling villains
ST has more compelling heroes
Robocop is a dystopian future
ST is a utopian society
Robocop represents the world that is
ST represents the world that could be
Robocop is a better story, but ST is a better movie.
I love Total Recall.
Because I'm a straight guy. OPs three movies are gay man power fantasies. Verhoeven confirmed that himself.
My gf loves Flesh and Blood and keeps trying to get me to see it. Is it any good? Judging by the trailer it’s corny as fuck and just some women’s romance schlock
surprising given that it reveals the true nature of women, of course there's rape in it and the woman ends up winning so maybe that's why. Either way it's a good flick
My gf says it’s about masculinity and what women love
The other two are good but Robocop is a divine film about what humanity and justice means. ST is a satire (the genre of cowards) and TR would have been better if it wasn't Schwarzenegger.
Total Recall is incredible. The starpower of Arnold, Sharon and Ironside take it to another level beyond the other two.
It has so many iconic moments as well.
schawrzenegger hater
Alright buddy, just because we both know the man could bend you into a pretzel doesn't mean you have to pretend he's not the greatest action movie hero of all time.
Robocop satirizes corporate America and American gun violence and possibly American police
RoboCop > Recall > Starship Troopers
All great though, but that RoboCop theme starts and it's pretty much over for the rest.
muh heckin' director's intenterino!
You can intend for your art to have whatever message you want, but you have no power to dictate how people receive it. Because I am fairly confident picrel is not supposed to be made out to be the hero, and yet he most clearly is.
Robocop. It’s a perfect movie with so many layers to it.
Probably Robocop.
Because I'm a straight guy.
Not you’re not
Starship Troopers is his masterpiece. It only gets better every time I rewatch it and see all the details he put into the movie and screenplay
If you couldn't tell OPs three movies are gay power fantasies then you're probably a gay guy. Nothing wrong with that of course. Showgirls is the straightest of the movies we're discussing and it gets memed as a gay movie because y'all n's is actually gay. End of story.
Starship troopers by a long mile but man they are all so good and the quintessential essence of my childhood.
Total Recall 4moi
unlike you I don't spend any time trying to figure out what gay power fantasies are. If killing the enemies of humanity and fucking Denise Richards makes me gay, then I guess I'm a turbofag.
It’s very racist in its depiction of Palestinians imo
Ss troopers is perfect
Robocop is perfect
Total recall is perfect
Don't hate him but he's not right for the role.
perfect
blue skies on Mars
perfect
And that’s throwing it points for the chick with three tits
all are really, really good and I'm not making a choice
total recall is like the perfect plot action movie and it has my slight preference but all are marry, marry and marry-tier
Does anyone like the remakes of TR and RC? I didn't see the TR remake and I thought the RC remake was garbage except for the scene where RC is revealed to be just a heart, lungs and head.
watch Benedetta verhoeven bros
They're all fantastic movies but he absolutely peaked with Robocop. It's absolute perfection.
peaked with RobertCop
I think the chronological order of his next films was
Total Recall
Basic Instinct
Showgirls
Starship Troopers
Hollow Man
What a run. Most directors would kill to have one of those in their filmography. Saying he peaked with RobertCop is just not true. He peaked with that entire 13 year time period.
Anti Christian filth
For me it's ROBOCOP
Robocop robo walked so starship troopers could run.
Total Recall in my favourite. These are all 10/10 movies you can't go wrong with though.
Women love rape
learns how to make machines walk in Robocop
doesn't feature mechanical exoskeletons in Starship Troopers (the book features them prominently).
i refuse to rank them, i am an enjoyer of them all
Look. I rewatched Total Recall a couple months ago and I was absolutely taken aback by how good it was compared to everything being made today in Hollywood. It was a depressing experience. Every single aspect of the filmmaking is superior. There are scenes in the movie that are instantly recognizable and effective, there are so many lines that stick with you forever, there are influential concepts like the red pill sequence. The movie is nonstop creativity, every scene is something new and inventive. Ask any person what their favorite moment in the movie is, they’ll each say something different. The nose pick scene, the X-ray chase, the red pill intervention, the 2 weeks lady, the hologram clone shootout, the alien bar, it goes on and on.
Movies today do not have this quality, and I mean that as more than an adjective. The whole process of making a movie like this is almost extinct. Today they don’t have this kind of creativity and immersion. I have watched countless modern films and I forget many of them entirely, but random moments from Total Recall are etched into my brain after 1 viewing. This doesn’t mean the movie is perfect. It just means that it’s a totally different art form from what we get today, it’s not the same species as modern movies that could never reach that level of being effective on a scene-by-scene basis.
I also had the same experience watching Starship Troopers and noticing all the effort they put into every scene to flesh out the world and ideas — how carelessly they injure soldiers in training, how the news cameraman keeps filming the massacre during the 1st assault because him dying is good for propaganda, the way the elder generations keep dying and passing on their values to the youth, how the romantic aspects become obsolete by the end as the characters choose the war machine over their passions, how the military is rewarded with sports and beer to indicate a culture of existing aggression here in America.
It doesn’t matter if you agree with the social commentary or not. At the end of the day this is exceptional filmmaking. Everything is deliberate, well-planned, precise, immersive and woven into different layers allowing people to enjoy the film from several perspectives. There’s never a dull moment. Meanwhile today we get fucking nothing but meaningless dull movies that will never leave as much of an impression as even Verhoeven’s weakest moments.
