What did you do if the movie you wanted was checked out?

I did all of that, fell off a bicycle but got back on it again, shitposted on dialup BBSes, and fucked women in college
And there are things you've done that the next generation will never know. They just happen to be faggy and unimportant.

get other movies?
honestly we live in a better world now.

friday: have to trek over to blockbuster or drive there

gotta pay like 3-4 bucks to rent it per flick

gotta plop it into the red car vhs player

finish, gotta rewind (if you're not a scumbag)

probably won't rewatch it

sunday: gotta return it and go all the way there, unless you wanna get hit with (((late))) fees

now we can use stream sites and watch any movie ever, for free

kill myself

You probably don't know what a head cleaner is

The trip was an experience though

Your mom LOL

Yeah me and my buddies use that all the time ;)

Your mom is a head cleaner.

Honestly, as someone born in the 80s, VCRs and CRTVs aren't really worth of nostalgia. They were big, clunky, lower quality, and not all that durable.

The biggest thing that I miss about the 90s and early 00s was the feeling of optimism that things would just keep getting better, both technologically and culturally.

rarely happened.
usually you went to the store to browse and pick up some movies that looked interesting.
if you went to get something in particular, most of the time it was because it was a new release, and shops would stock multiple copies of those tapes and then sell most off after a couple of months.

For me I'd go to my good reliables, Goosebumps, George of the Jungle, Terminator 2, Good Burger.

You either rented other movies or went home with nothing.

I worked at the video store. The movies I wanted were hidden nicely under the counter until I got off work.

We still have a CRT with a DVD player in my house.

rent Bio-Dome again

I lived 30 minutes out of town. The trip was a PITA

it felt really good. it was a soft action so when you pushed the tape in the vcr would kind of take it from you and pull it in, extremely satisfying

I just plugged a vcr in at a thrift store to see what tape was in it. The clacks and whirs when I took it out then put it back in were very nostalgic and satisfying. The tape was the 1997 romantic comedy Fools Rush In, by the way.

The resistance on the insert before it responds and slowly accepts it, is satisfying for, reasons.

Oh no you can't watch your slop in 240p anymore while manually inserting your tape.
The west has fallen.

vhs tapes are 480i

I don't care.

Why are you pretending like this is unusual? I still use a CRT monitor with my PC.

not realizing you can just buy a VCR off of ebay, FBMP, goodwill, etc for less than a six pack nowadays.

It's a euphemism for suicide. Pretty dark shit, man.

Calling a VCR a VCR instead of a “VHS player” is one of the litmus tests I use to weed out zoom zooms. You all have passed the test.
Underage b&

They were big, clunky, lower quality, and not all that durable.

It was kinda nice being able to just "record shit" off the TV whenever you wanted.... and/or make copies of whatever and give them to your friends.
You weren't living unless you were making shitty VHS copies of every DVD you rented in the early 2000s and giving them to friends.

I think the last thing i ever recorded on VHS was this. youtube.com/watch?v=vCRrXQRvC_I
It's John Lithgow Kino

nobody cares grandpa.

VCRs were gay. I just used mine to watch Men in Black and be able to convert composite to RF to play video games.

and you will never know what it feels like to push your penis into a vagina you stupid cuckoldry addict

In my country we called it a magnetoscope

ayooooooo fr fr we finna need that bussin iphone slimness fr

THAT'S ENOUGH 90S NOSTALGIA STOP IT

you had to get there early or you would miss out on the new releases

it's almost sexual

Same thing I do everytime I open Netflix. Settle for something else than what I had in mind.

there are 28 years between 1969 (the moon landing) and 1997

there are 28 years between 1997 and now

I tell people I have to return some videotapes whenever I want to leave a conversation but I don't see any good exits.

I also grew up with a TV that had an inbuilt VCR, used it to tape Walking with Dinosaurs and When Dinosaurs Romed America as well as Totally Wild. Shit was cash. Anyway, appealing to nostalgia is pointless. Naval gazing won't get you anywhere.

7 movies for 7 days was the constant offer on the back catalogue. Anything that wasn’t super popular or this year’s release got shoveled to this massive section.
I watched more 40s and 50s classics than most people see in a lifetime. And a ton of the worst b movie horror and fantasy to round that out.
