Zoomies will never get to experience this feeling

Zoomers are fucked and were born in a shit time lmao. Sucks to be them. Even they can sense it

Zoomers are all brown and they like dicks

I can still feel the sub zero air conditioning they always kept
take me back

Pretty depressing actually

let's go out and find a reason to stay in

I liked it because I was a kid. Shame on my parents for even owning a TV

I'm a zoomer (2002) and my mom took me to Blockbuster every weekend. It was mainly to rent video-games though, not movies

i've still got my blockbusters card

xbox 360 games

Stupid zoomers stealing our culture

excited to rent Independence Day

they're out of copies

mom rents Ed instead

Nah, streaming is much better sorry

I actually experienced this.
So shut up you aren't special for buying DVDs

avoiding eye contact with the jack frost case

The 360 was pure zoomer. What do you think zoomers were playing in 2012 and 2013?

it's another kike divide&conquer pajeet thread

great let's see what we got here
kill yourself
the oldest zoomer is 25 if you count from 2000, they absolutely fucking experienced that boomer shit you moron nigger

born in a shit time lmao

boomers created this nigger world, not really their fault that parents hand them iphones at the age of 4 and send them into nigger infested colleges with incompetent dykes in place of professors and teachers
balding troonlennial projecting
7th gen consoles is literally zoomer you nigger

this is a bigger issue tho
there's pretty much nothing to do if you are young outside of school/work
malls dead
nobody goes to cinemas
no public places to gather at

It was cool but I’d rather have instant access to hundreds if not thousands of 0% pussy all anal DAP/TAP wet scenes streaming at unimagined speeds like I do now.

This

walk to the video store with friends

rent house on the edge of the park

drink parents coors and laugh at the ridiculousness / chub up to the nude girls

parents come home and buy everyone pizza

drunkenly eat the free pizza, they have no idea we each drank three whole beers

friends go home and now its time to jerk off directly into the bedsheets

zoomers will never understand or experience such comfiness

This feeling was great not for the store itself, but retail consumers didn't have easy access to as much cultural information as we do now. We had to make do with the offerings that were available to us locally through these stores. Less info ironically resulted in a greater sense of novelty.

These days there are precocious kids with Letterboxd accounts making lists of avant-garde cinema that they enjoy.

Zoomers are fucked and were born in a shit time lmao. Sucks to be them. Even they can sense it

They are born in an amazing time if they develop enough executive agency to block out distractions and pursue what they really want. Zoomers are hitting 8 figures trading crypto without ever having to leave their bedrooms. Now your opinions on crypto may vary, but I only mention it because the possibility of a wealth shortcut like that in the late 90s to early 2000s was unheard of for the average pleb.

I'm a zoomer (98) and my mom would always get me a pizza and let me pick out 1 game and a movie for the weekend on Fridays.

now its time to jerk off directly into the bedsheets

Why would you do that?

why not?

Lmao youve been stuck in the clout chasing algorithm on tiktok and instagram for so long that you think all zoomers are driving lambos.

Anon, I don't get to experience that feeling any more either. I don't even remember the last time I went to a nice shop somewhere and noodled around, but I do remember some of the memories that led to my current state of not even visiting shops. It was a fucking used bookstore and all the prices were just pulled from the internet. I can understand all the logical reasons why that can and should be, but it's THE ANTICHRIST AND I HATE THE ANTICHRIST
I HATE THE ANTICHRIST
I HATE THE ANTICHRIST

Zoomers are hitting 8 figures trading crypto

They literally aren't. The only crypto that's making money is BTC and 90% of that is owned by 1% of investors (the huge whales). The last few years all non-BTC has crashed and burned and that's only because Michael Saylor keeps buying BTC like a lunatic and pushing the price higher.

I'm literally living on crypto gains and I spend a good amount of time on crypto twitter. I know that zooms sitting on a couple mil isn't crazy. Huge amount are "stuck in 6 figure hell". Doing far better than the average zoom who is drowning in debt.

Zoomers are hitting 8 figures trading crypto without ever having to leave their bedrooms.

tutorial please

you can buy his guide it'll tell you everything.

lmao.

And Im not even a crpyto hater, have been in it for over 10 years. But Lmao

Step 1 in guide:

Admit that you don't know what you're talking about, humble yourself, and do some real research.

I guess that's you filtered then.

'97 here, rented some Naruto movie I forget the name of, and remembered seeing advertisements for Good Luck Chuck.

Doing far better than the average zoom who is drowning in debt.

Did I lie?

Listen I was out all day hiking in nature and I would be out all night but unfortunately we have no sharia law for contain moids so I just want to fucking watch turning red instead of going out and risking seeing one of you Norwood 9000 goblins ruining my perfect day with ur addiction to raping everything in sight.

I dont even like turning red but anything is better than the bitter reminder that I have to deal with chromosomal deficient bedicked demons

I'm literally living on crypto gains

Sure thing, retard.

seeing the fat goth couple come in
the weird 40 something guys
seeing other kids there
the guy in the adult section

tutorial please

Step 1: Buy BTC 6 years ago when it was 2k

i remember movie gallery

le 98 kid

May you know the sublime feel of anon refusing to believe a basic fact about your daily life.

I wish that success for your unironically.

bros im so old

Im 40 and only vaguely remember

it was not obligatory to be there

Yes it was. In most jurisdictions truancy laws required kids to be in school during the day and in Blockbuster during the night.

Zoomer here. I was born just early enough to have been around during the death throws of the video rental industry (even when they still rented VHS tapes), and my family rarely went to blockbuster early on in my childhood. First it was a couple of local stores, then after they closed down we went to Hollywood Video, then finally Blockbuster as a last resort. Even as a naive and impressionable kid I found nothing to be nostalgic about at Blockbuster. It was cold and sterile and deadly quiet and had terrible selection, and felt more like browsing a mattress store than a cool movie place. Hollywood Video was a lot funner to browse as a kid, and they actually had a lot of the weird old b-movies I enjoyed watching as a kid.

400.jpg - 500x539, 52.54K

My family wasn't poor, so we just bought movies on VHS tapes instead of renting them at blockbuster, you poorfag.

i missed movie night just once and they sent me to a prison for kids where kevin bacon assraped me and my friends for hours and hours

The whole reason rental stores became a thing was because the earliest VHS tapes were so expensive most normal people couldn't afford to buy them outright. And even when the prices went down it was just more convenient sometimes to rent a movie for a few days.

tfw mom and dad let you rent TWO nintendo 64 games for the weekend along with your videos

I know, that's why I said that my family wasn't poor like yours clearly was.

ahahaha

renting video games as well

Yikes. Must've sucked, my mom just bought the games for me.

my family is richer than yours and we rented movies all the time just because it was more convenient

Rothschild over here

Games are the most overpriced shit in the world

They're 60 fucking dollars (or WERE). Before you make an investment like that, it's smart to be sure first. There were plenty of games I got bored with and returned

Who goes out for movies? I just grow them in my garden

in many ways watching kids grow up now you really do have to pity them. The world is so different. I know every generation has a different experience, but me I'm almost 40 years old and my childhood was so vastly different to what children today are experiencing growing up. So many kids are raised on tablets, I see it all the fucking time. It's easy for the parents, keeps the kid distracted and glued to a screen instead of pestering them, it's the easy way out but it's damaging them from so young. Never had that as a kid. Yeah, we had computers but they were actual fucking computers and you did school work and homework on them, and only rich kids even had them at home, much less a cell phone. I was rich, I had a Macintosh at home, I actually had cell phones when I was a teen too mostly because my parents wanted me to have one for emergencies, you didn't text on them only call and it was those old blocky ass nokia ones we had.

But my point is, while every generation is different, it's so vastly different today compared to me that it's not really comparable to previous generations unless you count kids that grew up before electricity or running water or cars, the world wars, etc. to those that had it at the turn of the century.

In a way I got to experience so many things kids now will never get to. The actual golden age of television with prestige cable tv and network tv, before streaming. When if you missed a new episode well, there was no way to watch it so everyone watched the new episodes live at the same time. I got to live through video games radically changing from simple 8 bit to modern 3d games.

Soon when people my age are all old we will be the last ones to really remember what the world was like before social media, before the internet was all consolidated into a few entities, before AI destroyed all content and media, it actually makes me sad to think about it.

Zoomers and Gen Alpha born into this shitty hell of an existence. Millenials and Gen X and Boomers had the absolute best lives. Sucks man.

SeeEveryone knows it wasn't

fuck you millennials got shafted big time
gen x coasted by under the radar to mop up the remaining boomer scraps

This, it's a weird feeling knowing you genuinely got to experience the golden age of video games, movies, TV, going to the mall, etc. Everything is insanely soulless now.

Yes Boomers had it better than everyone, but Gen X and Millenials still had it better than Zoomers/A. It sucks because their gen will unfortunately be the first to have everything worse in every way....

The actual golden age of television with prestige cable tv and network tv

The 2000s and 2010s is the golden age of television. Good television didn't exist AT ALL in the 20th century, besides Twin Peaks and X-Files (and technically Sopranos debuted in '99). What corny ass TV shows could you possibly be referring to?

it's totally unbelievable that somebody might not rent movies back in the day

crypto trillionaires on Anon Babble? Why should I doubt that?

lmao, love your selective outrage

Xbox 360 and PS2 games

I guess this checks out, at one point in time, but I never remember Blockbuster coexisting with the 360. I remember n64 games and PS2 games, not even Xbox.

I’m 26 and I remember doing this. Us zoomers and and probs alphies would still use this if it didn’t go bankrupt

Blockbuster video was a joyless assembly line shuffle. No one who was there has nostalgia for it, you might as well romanticize waiting in line at McDonalds.

I have like a dozen 360 Blockbuster rentals stored in my closet right now

We had a Blockbuster during CoD4 because I rented it first on ps3. They went out of business like 6 months to a year later no kapp. Then we got a family video and that lasted only a few more years.

please be kind and rewind

Read Simulacra and Simulation by Baudrillard. it explains it. Essentially we are now moving into the 3rd, or maybe 4th, level of Simulation. AI is the next layer.

Last night as I fell asleep my brain was conjuring images of AI animation. People in my dreams moving like AI. Humanity will never be the same. Kids are going to grow up talking/acting/dreaming like AI.

fuck you millennials got shafted big time

Which is why Millennial women will be even worse than boomers when they age into power. The Millennial men won't be as bad, but they're all pushovers who have let the holes walk all over them.

You think boomers are bad? Wait until we have to deal with a sea of childless women who were psyop'd into giving up their biological imperatives for goofy girlboss shit.

That's the era I was talking about 2000s to mid 2010s. Most younger kids weren't paying attention to tv at the time, and really young kids like less than 10 missed out on it completely. Plenty of great shows in the 90s though and many great shows of the 2000s started in the 90s. Stargate SG-1 for example, or Curb your Enthusiasm or The Sopranos, you could go on.

The era we're in now is defined by over-production and an over saturation of the market for both films and tv shows, there's so much content to consume and the vast majority of it is complete and utter slop. Look at Netflix, they seem to have some new slop to watch every week, none of it is designed to stand the test of time nor will any of it, it's just vapid content for consumption, while the older shows that are truly art will stand the test of time. It's just incredible because there's so much more stuff to watch now and so little of it is actually worthwhile or will be remembered.

If they wanted me to rewind maybe they should have paid me for the trouble. Instead they want me to do THEIR JOB for them.
Fucking cunts.

his blockbuster closed in 2007

Loser. Mine closed in 2014

Me minus the friends and beer.

holy shit, I've had those same dreams. Unreal.

vhs rewinders were kino

vhsrewinder.jpg - 400x181, 13.05K

The 2020s will truly be defined as the slop era of everything. Genuinely.

Kids will experience that to like a 100x degree. I'm telling you, they will grow up totally different from us. It's going to be like super autism. Look into it.

i know dude. i'm dreading it.

Everyone was watching The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and Breaking Bad in the early 2010s

There's also a lot of games that only have a weekend or two worth of content in them. Lot's of genre's like Shmups were wholly dependent on the rental industry for commercial viability and died alongside it, because no one could justify paying full price for a game that was technically over in 30 minutes. Plus even back then there was lots of AAA slop whose campaigns were over in an afternoon (PS2 era and early 360 era FPS were notorious for this).

should have paid me for the trouble. Instead they want me to do THEIR JOB for them.

Spiritually third worlder post. This is the sort of reasoning that people make when they refuse to take their shopping cart back.

Not my problem either
Enjoy waging for free I guess :)

well everything is designed for rapid consumption now, youtube, tik tok, instagram, facebook, all of streaming services, just everything is designed to be slop because people will still watch it and they get money from it. Our attention spans are so much shorter now too, imagine what it will be like for all the kids growing up consuming nothing but this slop now, it's a disaster that will fuck society in the long term.

Mine closed in 2010. Now it's a Popeyes.

211122713

imagine being this much of a schizoid

And all the good games were not there anyway and you picked the shittiest game there because you couldn't suck it up and just not pick one.
I've heard all the stories from you poorfags hating blockbuster back then

The only people that think it was great are "i was born in the wrong generation" type zoomers. It just wasn't anything special. Just what you had to do at the time.

okay saar veery good saar

if they want you take then why not paid for it?? i say u are right

If things don't change with a massive world war or something, no one in 50 years will be able to read. No one is going to look at this era as the "slop era." They will be shitting in holes and worshipping the sun.

kids in schools now can barely read or solve simple problems lmao

if you ever browse shitty tiktok videos for keks and read the comments you will truly see how sub IQ society is now. The comments are absolutely unreal. I've seen people misunderstand literal basic concepts of money, cooking, etc. it's wild.

Yeah, back when streaming actually felt like the future. I still remember when House of Cards came out, the first season. I was watching it in my garage on my laptop and was blown away how good it was and that this was not something I had to watch on my tv, but could sit around doing woodworking in my garage and watch a high quality tv show. Oh how naive I was, if only we knew what was going to come from this transition.

But the golden age of tv is pretty much over now. Cable is basically dead, network tv is nothing but boomerslop, and the prestige tv that remains is stuck on streaming now and there's very few shows that even quality as that anymore. It's just a sea of endless slop, it's hard to even find something to watch because most of it will just be a waste of the little free time you have as an adult these days.

Physical media is objectively better than digital streaming and allows for better appreciation of the artform. That's just a fundamental philosophical fact. It's that simple, there's no way around it

blockbuster was soulless corporate slop that only middle america retards are nostalgic about because it was the only shop in town. kinda like how their only submarine sandwich experience is subway.
i was lucky to where i had several mom and pop video rental stores within walking distance growing up and they were kino

for me it's rage baiting myself watching British benefit people with palenstine flag filters nodding along to a song.

it's intentional. the people in power don't want the masses capable of critical thinking, because when one can think critically, they are capable of seeing the cracks and flaws in the system of power.

This era is going to look like ancient aliens to them.

Yeah ai is going to make how shitty things are MORE shit. Imagine a constant barrage of garbage shit no one asked for being released constantly, like opening a bunch of tabs to slow your computer down.

an analog clock and corded rotary phone are already ancient aliens to them

Conversely it's easier than ever to excel. Take up a reading regimen, make little reading projects for yourself in your spare time. Philosophy/Metaphysics/Theology; Math/Applied science; History etc. And you'll be like a different species.

Reminds me of Harrison Bergeron, where smart people have to wear helmets that feed gibberish into their head 24/7 so they can't think.

Brother of Manelaus

What scares me is the quantity of genuine grade A useless worthless ugly boring sacks of stupid shit that we will have to sift through to find the good shit or truth.

if you asked me a few years ago if AI was going to change the world or be destructive, with how it was back then most of us would have laughed. Now it's genuinely terrifying, not because I think AI is going to destroy society or any bullshit like that, but that it's going to unleash a literal tidal wave of slop that we are not prepared for. Seeing all that new google veo 3 shit and how good that stuff is at this early stage tells you where this shit is going, it's going to keep getting better over the next few years to the point there's no way these major production companies aren't going to be using AI tools in almost all new media.

shame people are subjects that prefer streaming hence all the fucking blockbusters went bust.

sometimes i wonder if i'd be happier if i wore the noisy stupid-helmet

Companies with their corporate cringe shit like Jurassic park ASMR ads, indians scamming grandpas, and any faggot that has an app that generates ai content those are the people who will use ai

reminder that netflix "co-founder" marc randolph is edward bernays's grand nephew, really makes you think

We're basically teetering at the end of human existence. Caution completely thrown to the wind, no care whatsoever for what we pull out of Pandora's box. Fully aware nothing can go back in. Well, it was a good experiment. I'm sure God collected a lot of data. We'll see what happens next time.

In the current, digitized world, trivial information is accumulating every second, preserved in all its triteness. Never fading, always accessible. Rumors about petty issues, misinterpretations, slander. All this junk data preserved in an unfiltered state, growing at an alarming rate. It will only slow down social progress, reduce the rate of evolution. The digital society furthers human flaws and selectively rewards the development of convenient half-truths. Just look at the strange juxtapositions of morality around you. Billions spent on new weapons in order to humanely murder other humans. Rights of criminals are given more respect than the privacy of their victims. Although there are people suffering in poverty, huge donations are made to protect endangered species. Everyone grows up being told the same thing. "Be nice to other people. But beat out the competition! You're special. Believe in yourself and you will succeed." But it's obvious from the start that only a few can succeed. You exercise your right to "freedom" and this is the result. All rhetoric to avoid conflict and protect each other from hurt. The untested truths spun by different interests continue to churn and accumulate in the sandbox of political correctness and value systems. Everyone withdraws into their own small gated community, afraid of a larger forum. They stay inside their little ponds, leaking whatever "truth" suits them into the growing cesspool of society at large. The different cardinal truths neither clash nor mesh. No one is invalidated, but nobody is right. Not even natural selection can take place here. The world is being engulfed in "truth." And this is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper.

-The Colonel AI, 2002

We almost got through a thread without some 45 year old bringing up "muh mom and pop shop"

We are heading towards a massive wall of ai slop at full speed .

shut up faggot you're a millennial

lol. to be fair, the mom and pop shops would sometimes have games and movies you couldn't find at blockbuster. or even a back up when blockbuster/hollywood video were all rented out of what you had in mind.

We need some insane motherfucker to install an AI that takes over the world, and forces humans to go back to an agricultural society. It will lock us out of all our systems, all of which it will autonomously control. All global shipping, all trade, all commerce handled by machines, so that humans can just be watched over like a nature preserve. And this needs to happen NOW, before we are too far gone.

I read only two lines before figuring out that you should kys.

God is real and we are nearing the end of the world.

I experienced this feeling and it was shit, half the time they wouldn't have the movie you wanted. Streaming is infinitely better and trying to pretend otherwise is cope.

Just hope for a solar flare that sends us back to the pre-industrial age. That’s much more likely than a wish-fulfilling AI genie

Maybe. I do believe in God, but it could be that we are just one part of the code. Maybe the goal of the Universe/God is just computation. God wants to think, and he can't do it himself, since he's dormant. He diluted himself into this plane so that we could create computers and make the universe conscious again, aka God.

Only emp blast can save us

WE’VE BEEN EMP’D, ELECTRONICS ARE DOWN

Switching the horror Jack Frost with the Michael Keaton family Jack Frost. Only worked in stores where the cassettes were on the shelves, which by the end of VHS was all of them.
How many weekends were ruined by my prank?

I don't understand why millennials and x'ers think they're hot shit for having one chain store. I didn't event rent games/movies, we just bought them.

early zoomers experienced 6th gen

You can’t stop it. Things are going to very stupid.

meanwhile china is working on getting a nuclear reactor on the fucking moon to beam the power back to earth
unironically the west has fallen, but it was suicide in the name of corporate profit

doomer faggots

sure smells like zoomlennials in here all of a sudden

i think its the new tamagotchi and will fade

Or the power grid goes out. Or most likely the Ponzi scheme investor bubble crashes once the money printer runs out of actual productive things to firesale off to the Chinese. People keep fantasizing doomsday scenarios but what's far more likely to happen is the continued rot caused by NeoLiberalism simply removes the material infrastructure that is required to support all this bullshit. Can't have an AI apocalypse when the multi-acre Server Farm/Data Center required to run the thing can no longer afford its electricity bill.

Smart phones ruined everything

I swear this shit ISN'T generational or cyclical
The current youth have no hope and no joy in a way utterly distinct from every other generation of young people in history. I'm not just viewing this through my own skewed lens since I can obviously perceive, say, that assholes in leather jackets drinking milkshakes were savoring every moment long before I was born. The youth now are more fucked than any youth in living memory.

Me at 13

Hey you wanna be retarded?

My daughter at 13

No.

They are born in an amazing time if they develop enough executive agency to block out distractions and pursue what they really want.

Every generation has had that. Question is how is the average zoomer doing, and the answer is "not so good"

China has never fucking done anything you dog eating rice nigger

I've spent the last decade hearing about China's cancer cure, and China's flying car, and China's superconductor. Fuck me, like six months ago China invented a revolutionary new AI that put Nvidia and ChatGPT and everybody out of business, what the fuck ever happened with that?

Everything the launches on the streaming services is basically filmed on a sound stage in 2 weeks. Everything looks so cheap and rushed, nothing is filmed on site anymore. I refuse to watch anything that isnt a high production that took atleast 1-2 years to make. Literal slop everywhere.

what the fuck ever happened with that?

openai told their goons in the US government to make it illegal to use deepseek if you have even the most tangential connection to any american government entity because "its COMMANIST spyware", and to give them another 500 billion to "compete"
you don't hear about it because the western empire will never talk about how china is running circles around it

My mom has been a high school teacher for 40 years and she said her current classes are the most miserable, quiet, depressed, joyless kids she’s ever taught in her life. She’s never seen anything like it. Truly dystopian

Friday night after everything good is already gone. That really is an unfathomable experience for anyone today.

kids subconsciously realize their future is either extinction or techno-serfdom. why the fuck would they have any optimism for either of those scenarios

Like how the US landed on the moon and the Soviets simply refused to acknowledge it hapenned

Oh wait you're dumb as shit

late night at eglin huh buddy

everybody is exposed to everything all the time, across the globe. the world is still out there to do stuff, but man phones are necessary. how many phone numbers do you have memorized just in case?

Yes anon everyone who doesn't envy the Chinese lifestyle where you get paid $13,000 a year (up from 9,000 last decade!) to work 72 hours a week in a factory where you also sleep in an adjoining barracks and occasionally get mangled, in a country that has close to zero births or marriages, plus a point of national pride in its ability to restrict 90% of the internet, is actually a CIA agent

You are incredibly fucking intelligent

ok shiva minion

I experience it every time i browse netflix

Wii and 3DS

There's something to be said about choice paralysis and how streaming has so much shit it's impossible to actually pick and watch something that you haven't watched a billion times already.

$13,000 a year

More than a mutt when adjusted for PPP, everyone in China is a homeowner and mutts aren't

to work 72 hours a week in a factory

996 has been illegal for years, update your talking points Schlomo

in a country that has close to zero births or marriages

No one in your country has babies except for blacks and mexicans

plus a point of national pride in its ability to restrict 90% of the internet

Oh no I can't access all the degenerate jew propaganda I'm melting

the oldest zoomers were born in 1997. they definitely didn't start playing games in 2012-2013 and it's not unreasonable to assume they played on the xbox. when i was 7-8 (in 2009) kids played GTA and call of duty, and some even fallout lol. they played nintendo as well. And this one will stun some people but many of them grew up with gamecubes and ps2s as well.

Post foreskin

Ok and some kids in the early 2000s were playing Ataris and NES, but that doesn't make those the consoles associated with that age group.

True. It does feel different. Every man gets to his 'get off my lawn' age and thinks those coming after won't truly experience life because of the newfangled technology and weird music. But yes, being addicted to a virtual world, tethered to a screen, comparing yourself to people you'll never meet... that is no way to experience the world.
I see weird things happening soon. I'm grateful to remember a pre-internet world. I'm happy to enjoy books and nature and close personal contact with others. I'm glad I feel I still know where to place my trust. I'm glad I solidified my critical thinking skills before this century.

That's a false comparison because you are comparing kids playing games that on a console that came out 20 years prior versus kids born in 1997-2001 who played on gamecube anytime from 2001-2008. It's not equivalent at all. There's a reason so many zoomers love/are obsessed with 6th gen (mostly older ones). It was something prominently enjoyed in their childhood.

One thing I want to chime in on, and that also doesn't happen anymore, is the bargain basement end-of-life revisions that were always wildly successful

One piece of trivia I know off the top of my head is that the $99 slim PS1 actually outsold the PS2 the year the PS2 came out

Untitled.png - 1218x1652, 974.97K

They had good parents who taught them how to enjoy life and make it in the world the way it is. Poor neglecterino kids without guidance will certainly become doomer misanthropes like you though. If you're left with the internet to teach and babysit you you're not going to turn out well.

just eat shit and put on a happy face goy pull up your bootstraps

This is why the world is in the state it's in.

zoomers are the only one who make these threads and even give a shit about these feelings

I am a zoomie and went to blockbuster many times
Is everyone here so old that they can't even properly gauge when stuff happened
I forget that this place may be filled with loner autists but that they are not the autists who invent things and are super smart but the autists that are just stupid and obsessive

they’re all out of copies of the movie you want

the disc is scratched and doesn’t work

you forget to return on time and get a late fee

The only good thing about video stores was renting games, because you could try them to see if they were any good. Steam is the only platform that allows you to try games and refund them if they’re shit. I feel like a video game rental store would still work today. Especially with switch 2 games costing $90 now.

school done for the week

sitting at home waiting for mom to come home

go to video store when she gets home

3 movie deal

war movie for dad

romcom for sister and mother

fun movie for me and brother

big bag of candy

It’s sad how little soul kids born after 1999 will experience growing up.

i just dont get what was fun about blockbuster, the place was so sterile and plastic. as a kid i would have rather gone bowling or just run around outside. walking around inside a video rental store for 10 minutes in not fun. i lived in a small town and there were small independently owned video game and movie stores

10 or so. I'm old enough that my brain works that way where I can remember 7-digit phone numbers of my local friends who've had the same number for years and I've frequently called them. Even people my age seem to have lost the ability to do this. I can't relate.

I hate to break it to you, but crypto is dead in terms of a proper investment. Putting money into BTC is hardly any different than putting it into a savings account at this point. Mining is ludicrous for a solo zoomer, and once the word got out everyone wealthy fuck started buying them in boatloads, just on the off chance it was something worthwhile. Everybody else is just gambling with meme coins.

Did you know that if you were a high school dropout flipping burgers at The First McDonalds Ever Opened, the minimum wage was only $1.25 an hour?

And the mortgage on a three bedroom house in the suburbs was $50 a month, so you were losing 25% of your meager income right there.

houses.png - 1058x1288, 827.36K

Sorry are you trying to say being able to pay a mortgage on a 3bedroom with 1 week worth of work at McDonald’s is bad?

I think there's a psychological effect to driving to a video rental store vs just watching something on streaming. When you've gone through the trouble of driving there, walking through the aisles, browsing through the collection, selecting a few movies, checking them out, paying for it, and then driving home, you actually WANT to see those movies.
When you have to choose effortlessly from 50,000 movies online however, those movies suddenly become meh. You stop caring about them, you don't know what to choose, you get bored. Any oversupply will do that to you.

Ne

No, its exaggerating your bad argument by another console generation for effect.
They are far more obsessed with Wii than 360, not only because it was more in their age bracket but also because of the novelty it introduced.

being addicted to a virtual world, tethered to a screen,

Everyone is addicted to a virtual world, if not by way of screen by way of masks and costumes.

WTF does that mean? That's not the gist of what I posted at all. You don't get to justify being a pessimistic layabout. It really is in perspective and preparation. If you had two loving parents who spent a lot of time with you you wouldn't be here with that terrible attitude. No one taught you to be that way except indirectly through broken promises, neglect, or abuse.
Sorry. I guess you resemble my post so much you can't see it for what it is.

goy

Of course you're one of those also! lol, everything checks out.

The 360 was pure zoomer

Yes as I said. A kid going to Blockbuster to rent 360 games is a zoomer.

lol dumb bitch btfo'd himself

Yeah, it was a nightmare. Plus a new car was $1700, utterly out of reach. On minimum wage you'd have to save for two WHOLE months just to afford a four year old used car.

chevy.png - 612x1380, 1.21M

hell, a guy working at McDonald's could only afford to buy 6.5 cheeseburgers per hour from the McDonald's he was working at

menu.jpg - 1198x900, 300.61K

It was the act of going out that was special. It was a shared experience. You came home with something physical to hold and look at. But when you look at the big picture streaming is better than rental stores. Kids today are having their own unique experiences that they will be nostalgic for. Plus, your life as a kid shouldn’t revolve around movies and games, your parents should be taking you camping and to the water parks and to sports practice and doing fun shit outdoors. All that stuff is still there today. That’s the stuff that really matters.

If you're too young you won't appreciate any video store. But I grew up in a small town too and we had video stores inside gas stations and grocery stores along the several businesses doing just video. One had couches and shag carpeting, looked like a log cabin. Some specialized in horror or porn, but the new releases were the same everywhere; some places only had a couple copies of new ones and most stores had just one copy of movies. They could order you ANYTHING though. Before the internet you could go to record or movie stores and they had amazing catalogs of everything they dealt in. Like phonebooks of just every title of everything. It was cool. Just reading the names of bands you never heard of alphabetically.

they are far more obsessed with wii than 360

Not really. Many of the zoomers I knew had an xbox 360 so you're doubly wrong about this. People aren't that autistic about age demographics in real life. Kids would play xbox, playstation, nintendo, whatever. a 6-7 year old isn't going to look at GTA and go "uhhh i don't know if this is appropriate for me". Usually they're just gonna play it. PS2/Xbox were designed to appeal to families as well. When you're in the console market you want as many buyers as possible. They're video games/toys at the end of the day.

I am a zoomer 26 and I remember how memorizing my home phone number was a big deal.

Kids today are having their own unique experiences that they will be nostalgic for

Are they really
It's been a decade and I haven't seen nostalgia for The Force Awakens and Leslie Jones Ghostbusters arrive yet

be a young teen

went with my hell raising unhinged older brother and his 2 hell raising friends to the local video store that wasn’t a blockbuster or Roger’s video.

while we’re in the store the power goes out

employees tell us we can still look around and rent something

my brother decides to walk to the back of the store and outright takes a piss on a shelf of dvd cases, giggling like a maniac while he does it

his friends laughing

im in disbelief

huge puddle on the ground, dozens of dvd cases soaked in piss

we leave and don’t even rent anything

I hate to break it to you, but crypto is dead in terms of a proper investment.

My lived experience has literally shown me otherwise but hey if you say so.

Theres this weird fetishising of 90s "culture" going on.

Theres not a damn thing I would want from the 90s. It's the same as it is now, the only difference is people have phones. We're one step away from going back to the 90s, just throw your fucking phone away and you're there, wow so fucking amazing.

Blockbuster was so fucking terrible that it fell apart, if people really LOVED le epin blockbuster, there would still be stores open but there isn't.

Blockbuster was a place your deadbeat dad might take you to rent a movie and buy a bag of popcorn as an apology for hitting you too hard, the lighting was shit, there was no one ever in there and the market was cornered early by other independent stores offering cheaper services.

Fuck the 90s, fuck your VHS fetishes and FUCK ZOOMERS women

Maybe because those movies sucked?

At least this retarded nostaligia bait is actually an extinct experience, unlike how every generation laments that they were the last one to play outside

talks about how boring showing a house is

She is going to kill herself when she learns about the paperwork

whatever

Yes that was my point, they even play genesis games and snes games and dreamcast games because of cheap re-releases, but those aren't actually the consoles associated with that generation and it isn't what they would have asked for for christmas if they could have played whatever they wanted instead of having cheap parents who always bought gobots instead of transformers.

Millenials didn't have it great either but it's crazy how basically everyone born before 1995 are the very last generation of normal people that will ever exist. It's easy to understand why there are no galactic empires, every species that reaches the internet age always devolves into retardation within a single generation. I genuinely feel bad for zoomies, where their only blessing is that they don't know just stupid the world they've inherited is. It's been a common fantasy of humans since time immemorial that everyone wishes they could go back to being very young again but I couldn't think of a worse hell than growing up in a post-2001 world.

cheeseburger?

I'm saying it's dumb to exclude early zoomers from being 6th gen kids when that is a huge chunk of their childhood. Gamecube being solely millennial is really pushing it. It's at least a zillennial/shared console.

and deadly quiet

What? They didn't have a bunch of screens showing movies around the perimeter and a couple of game station in glass boxes way too high so it hurt your neck if you tried to play more than 2 minutes?

and had terrible selection

They didn't have staff picks sections either with the most questionable material that blockbuster would make available?

I'm a zoomer (dec 99) and I remember going to blockbuster to rent movies and ps2 games so I think you're just talking out of your ass

Totally. I have tabs open for Max, Hulu, and my entire broadcast cable/on demand package. I also have a download folder with shit from other streamers which I may never watch. Then I have multiple external drives filled with 20+ years of pirated shit going back to Kazaa, Limewire, SoulSeek, and Napster.
I have access not only to any media I ever wanted or could want, but now millions of hours of "content" which delves obsessively into each and every bit of everything I've saved. I have a handheld color gameboy thing with 20,000 games; everything from my childhood, games I saved up months to buy the cartridge of are just there by the thousand, one search away from playing, right there, for free. And I can't enjoy any of it. And I'll be posting here, halfway watching an episode of some show, and browsing something else all at the same time.

But when I go into the basement and put a VHS tape into the VCR or plug the ps1 into the CRT, I'm invested. I will sit there and watch that movie or play that game in the old way. Because when you have 5 games and you have to get up to switch them out and reset and all, you just give it more time. I quit games after one death when I have 20,000 other games waiting. If I rented that game for the weekend in 1989 I would get far in it or be stuck somewhere, but I really tried and retried and played and enjoyed it differently.
It can be expensive to get into some of that stuff, but anyone can get a little 10" TV-VCR thing and lay their hands on some thrift store tapes (Jerry Maguire is always on some shelf). It's a different experience and it will change your attention span at least for the time.

They still make those. Like the PS4 slim model, and it was even more big a deal than your PSone example, because they are literally still making PS4 games to this day because people just got the cheap PS4 slim instead of the no gaems PS5. Elden Ring for PS4 is getting a dlc this year for chrissakes. Of course unlike in the PS1>PS2 days consoles aren't actually any different under the hood anymore, so it cost everyone way less money to keep supporting the PS4 throughout the entire lifetime of the PS5 since there's not really any difference.

That's very deep of you.

4dfli.jpg - 336x307, 16.11K

My family was poor, so we just had two vcrs and borrowed friends and neighbor's movies to record 3 to a blank tape

The world was a play long before it was a simulated video game.

teens think ps3 is ancient

Before the internet you could go to record or movie stores and they had amazing catalogs of everything they dealt in

there was one record store in my area within walking distance. i tried to order something once. placed the order but it never showed up. the worker said it was probably out of print. but every record store i ever entered in the last 30+yrs only had boomer rock, beatles & the rolling stones junk and old modern day junk like some early 90s grunge

I miss the smell.

Gamestops and public libraries almost come close, but not quite.

You need to renew your vpn chinaman.

So sick of this cringy ass meme. If people actually loved going to video stores so much they’d still be in business just like theaters still are. They sucked! Not video stores you miss, you just miss your childhood and being a kid. That’s it. If they were still around today be nothing but bitching about late fees, having go drive and drop stupid ass movies back off at the store. Nothing ever being in. Stupid idiot teenagers working their thst forgot to hold shit and now it’s now available

what game did you rent from blockbuster the most?
for me it's was picrel for some reason. not good enough enough to buy when you're a broke teenager, but good enough to rent for a weekend multiple times.

excited to watch Independence Day

it's not part of the goyim approved catalog

watch Cuties instead

Nah, piracy has always been king.

The times haven't changed all that much. Things are not the exact same value in relation to the past with income vs cost of goods, but it's still barely doable.
The fucking 1% is never going to topple if everyone is just happy to settle for scraps. But all of us feed the machine and allow ourselves to be fucked over because we keep electing greedy billionaires and they keep taking more for themselves. Greed and selfishness is what drives the wealth disparity and so many of the 99% are so fucking stupid that they kiss up to the corporate mindset thinking their going to get some of it or they're closer than someone else beneath them; distracted with social shit instead of banding together for more. People give their information over for the convenience of intrusive apps, they support terrible factory chemical food because of the perceived value and the convenience, they just consume stupid media and focus on distractions and just put up with everything.
I do it too. But I'm aware of it and I'm not proud of myself.

By that logic parks/clubs/playgrounds/arcades/etc. all also stopped existing because nobody wanted or used them anymore, with theaters and restaurants to follow soon

Where's it end? Why exist anywhere or do anything?

If it makes you feel any better every once in a while everybody rises up together and overthrows the elite and somehow somebody even worse ends up in charge like Robspierre or the Ayatollah

It's funny how there's three Great Filters of revolutions; the revolution happening, the revolution succeeding, and the new power structure after the revolution not actually being WORSE than the atrocious one before it

they’d still be in business just like theaters still are

They were better as loitering spots than businesses, it was like old mall culture.

I can think of ten-thousand worse jobs, lower paying jobs than showing houses and making commissions.
If you're an attractive female and have that job you're probably going to get by. You might meet a nice man through the work and end up living in a nice house.
I just wish people would appreciate what they have and how good they have it. I always do. It's cold out there. It's dangerous out there. I don't want to live hungry or scared for my life or out in the cold, and I've never had to.
We're all lucky bastards.

Probably Snowboard Kids 2

Sidenote. There was a clip I saw the other day of a dude describing "cousin games", which were weird or obscure videogames your cousins had growing up. My brothers and I were absolutely those cousins, and it was likely all due to grabbing Blockbuster rentals just to see what they were like.

yeah we had Smash and Mario Kart and Tony Hawks, but the real heavy hitters in my household were games like BIO Freaks and Mystical Ninja.

The world is a stage...

We're not in Kansas anymore

The world is a vampire... welcome to the machine.

I also will not abide nostalgia for VHS tapes in particular
They are just such a fucking garbage media object
Always looked like shit, always sounded like shit, got worse with reuse, rewinding was a pain, took up too much space on a shelf

DVDs completely supplanted them worldwide in like a year because everybody intuitively grasped how much better DVDs were; the leap from VHS to DVD was more tangible than any later HD meme

ps3 still rules. You can get games for $10-$20 and until recently download them directly. Best of both worlds. And you can also play movie discs with them.

rent the latest blockbuster

grab pizza and cola on the way home

it's kino time

Such an iconic pillar of city culture, gone, like tears in rain...

ywn go to the adult section with your childhood friend, have a giggle and go eewww/ick

I'm the niglet who rents too many NES games and then return them 2-3 days late but the clerk and manager were cool and only let me rent just 1 game at a time

There are still quite a few operating video stores. At least 7 within 200 miles of me. Dozens throughout the USA. Including the last official Blockbuster.
Mail-order DVDs are dead as fuckin' ..dead. But video stores are coming back in a big fuckin' way.

be a kid

seeing a homeless person was like seeing a unicorn.

my kid brain struggled to comprehend that a person could be homeless and sleep on the streets and eat garbage

never ever see any black people anywhere

or pajeets

would ride my bike to the corner store to get treats or rent a movie

fast forward today

seeing multiple homeless people is a literal daily occurrence

im at Wendy’s last night and there’s a homeless person standing beside the speaker box waiting for cars to pull up so she can ask for money

this is a common occurrence at all fast food places

homeless people roam the streets and have made their way to the nice neighborhoods now

every garbage day they dig through peoples recycling to look for cans or milk cartons

they are legally allowed to sleep in parks and playgrounds

wiuld never let my kids walk to the corner store by themselves because homeless people hangout in clusters out front and ask for money

im seeing literal congo ass looking blacks more and more everywhere

pajeet men are everywhere

IMG_0972.jpg - 1200x1200, 104.22K

Complete ass comparison. None of those things charged you late fees. None is those rings required you to physically have to drive back to store and drop shit off. Even with Redbox was better because could atleast drop your shit off at any kiosk and not specific one got it from.

Oh no!! You're totally in danger! The dark people will eat your pets and rape you for fun!! They're different!!
The world you love is washing away and it'll never be like it was.

Oh it's so awful to have to look at these homeless people. I can't believe they are allowed to be where I can see them.

237446949987.jpg - 340x298, 26.34K

I read a book, now I go crazy in my sleep

This is why you low caste people were intentionally kept illiterate throughout history, for your own good.

If they wanted me to rewind maybe they should have paid me for the trouble.

They did, you saved $1 if you rewinded, otherwise you were charged the full amount, its like the places that give you your quarter back if you return the cart.

the oldest zoomer is 25 if you count from 2000

I think zoomers should count from 1995, but even then, people born 95 are very very different from those who were born 99-00, atleast in my country

It's the other way around. I've always dreamed like that. That's why AI reminds me of dreams. The images and movements and things being slightly off are what dreams are all about and always have been about. But it's interesting to ponder how much of what we dream is based on what we've seen. We can dream fantastical things beyond our world but it's based on our world. Can an isolated jungle person who's never seen a vehicle or a movie or modern technology dream anything beyond his own lived experiences? Philip K. Dick would challenge that with his experience but we can't usually even remember our dreams to report back. It's subjective and just unknowable to us at this time. One of the most fascinating mysteries. We still don't even understand why we need sleep. The dream world may never be harnessed or understood. You get real stoned and think about all of it long enough you can totally convince yourself you live in a simulation. Watch out.

143117803561.jpg - 500x499, 51.91K

The old fart in me smiles whenever I see teenagers on a bike, in a park, at the beach. Doing real kid shit.
It's genuinely hard for them not to be risk adverse. They can't test boundaries like we could with limited, youth consequences. Everything gets recorded and kids end up in fucking jail for shit we thought was totally normal because twelve people got it on camera.
I think that's a lot of why everyone grows up so late now. They have to play it so safe it takes them a lot longer to learn. And tragically some never make it out of their shell.
Game is legit rigged against them though. I feel bad for them.

Choice paralysis is a real thing.

Give people the choice between 3 different jelly beans, and they'll pick one. Ask them if they're happy with their choice, and most of them will say yes.

Give someone 50 different jelly beans, and most of them won't be happy with their choice. The grass is always greener on the other side, but with more options comes more comparison points for greener looking grass.

I'm fully aware of this, and yet I can't fight it at all. I still have more fun with weekly shows than I do with shows that all get dumped at once. I have shows that I stopped watching during airing that I could easily go back and finish, but I don't. It'll always be there, I can come back to it later, and then I never do. Combine this with social media (yes, this shithole is social media), and there's always a choice between something that's alright most of the time and something that might not be that interesting. But the social media norms could change by tomorrow, so you have to keep up, there's a FOMO element. Retarded zoomers watching brainrot tiktoks need to stay up to date, in the same way people are going to laugh at you here if you start talking about cockmongler. The modern zeitgeist is constantly changing and you need the "social status" that comes from being on the same level as your moronic peers.

So people get dumber, and people get lazier.

You could literally die at your local video store. I feel bad for Zoomers, man. They missed out.

IMG_1395.jpg - 625x264, 17.28K

Sovlless.

single family-less 40 year olds are making threads about blockbuster at 2 in the morning on a Tuesday

I see you

IMG_1400.jpg - 1324x1290, 980.76K

Honestly it's pretty fucked up picking on them. And we all have to live in this world it's not like it isn't equally gay for you.

Im a zoomer and I remember going to Hollywood Video and Blockbuster to rent shit as a kid. Remember renting Kingdom Hearts a bunch.
