So, 2160p rip of Brazil is out.
What was Criterion thinking with this color grading?
Brazil 4K UHD (Criterion Collection)
They turned it into a Wes Anderson flick
Is this a joke? It looks like shit. Worse, it looks like AI slop.
Some more uncompressed pictures here slow.pics
Criterion 4k releases have been underwhelming for years. I buy tons of physical 4k movies because I have a good home theater and criterion are always the most disappointing. I try to avoid their stuff or just stick with a blu ray
wow
honestly awful. Why do they do this? to make it look like a modern movie?
What was Criterion thinking
how many times are we going to have this thread where Criterion fucks up the color grading of a movie and people just pretends it doesn't exist/isn't an issue because the DP is the one who is doing the color grading and Anon Babble claims "they know better compared to users on Anon Babble"? They're a joke of a company and this is like the 100th time they've done this. stop supporting this dogshit company. You have so many smaller companies actually putting effort into new releases that Criterion might as well be bottom of the barrel these days.
it's another "retard tries to do screencaps of hdr content and does it completely wrong" episode
I have 1080p Blu-Ray Remux and 2160p UHD rip and compared them both on my LG OLED G3 in a calibrated filmmaker mode.
UHD still looks wrong and fucked up.
Are you fucking kidding me, right?
Thanks for the heads-up and the comparison pics!
ok so, whenever they're in the ministry of information offices, apply the toothpaste-cyan colour because everyone knows that's the colour of institutionalism. But when they're at the party with the mom, or at that lady's apartment at the beginning, go with the tomato soup-orange for that homey, incandescent lighting look.
The unceremonious drab tones of Brazil are half the point of the film these guys are cocksuckers
this will be someones first time time watching. lmao
So Terry Gilliam had nothing to do with this?
It can't look "old"
It needs to look new and sleek and have PUNCH.
UP THE CONTRAST, UP THE SATURATION
FUCK YEAH
make it more dark
add a color filter
this is the kind of midwit shit that someone who's like barely out of their teenage years would think is good, I remember I used to make short films when I was in college and I actually did this to one of them, color graded it and turned it more dark, probably because I had smoked weed and watched The Matrix. this is literally the level that Criterion is on is college student on drugs who just watched The Matrix
bro what if Brazil looked all sleek and modern, we have the tools, we have the technology, lets do it
I bet they ran this throuh an AI as well, these people are such fucking plebs its not even funny
criterion are a fashion brand for normies who want to feel culture now, nothing more
all the actual film autists moved on from them years ago
Terry Gilliam
Criterion claims he personally approves color grading for new 4K restorations.
Plot twist: Gilliam is color blind.

hdr makes scenes blue?
Every single fucked up Criterion release that has weird color grading issues are director/cinematographer approved. Go look at the Wong Kar Wai releases if you want another example. they look fucked up but people will claim "but thats how the director wanted them to look!" so people just shut the fuck up about it and pretend like they don't look like total dogshit
WHY do they do this? Like seriously, what is the real reason for this?
The Matrix
Back then I would have been watching it on DVD
they look fucked up but people will claim "but thats how the director wanted them to look!"
There's always those faggots in these threads who treat directors like omnipotent gods and validate their worst retroactive changes as the definitive version of the movie.
Imagine running damage control for Cameron and Lucas for free. That's real insanity.
2008 chungking express version is no longer printed
stuck with the world of wong kar wai release
Glad we can still torrent it
director/cinematographer approved
literally just sign here to get a paycheck, I'm sure a lot of them don't even watch a single second of it
