Yeah, Sasori lost his parents when he was young and it fucked him up. Chiyo taught him how to use puppets and he made puppets that looked like his parents as a replacement, but then he realized that they would never be capable of actually loving him he went full nihilist. At the end of the day he was just a sad boy who missed his parents and wanted to create things that would never die but they ironically made him more sad because they couldn't serve as replacements for actual people.
Had Naruto actually fought him he probably would have been susceptible to Talk no Jutsu.

It's not really a secret. He's straight up said in interviews that he's not good at writing females or romance which is why both were lacking throughout the series.
It makes sense. Most Shounen mangaka were inspired by older mangaka who often never focused on writing females or giving them important roles since manga is typically aimed at young boys.
