In the comics Doom was never physically able to beat Bob.This was shown like 4 times, including him sending a Doombot to a meeting where the Void was present, in order to avoid danger to himself. He wisely understood Norman Osborn and Bob would mentally sabotage each other in due time.
The expectation is movie Doom will use his genius to turn Sentry into a God battery to further his agenda.

They've been seething over the John Walker reception since that Falcon and Winter Soldier show. One of the original ideas for Thunderbolts was him as the main villain. That why they had made him a shit husband and failed father in the movie even though there was never any indication of that in the show. They actively hate the character but they knew he's one of the few nuMarvel heroes that people aren't completely apathetic towards so they kept him around as a "good guy" in Thunderbolts. He'll be dead before Doomsday is halfway over.

The movie is clearly gonna be the third attempt to push Sam as the new protagonist of the MCU, as well as his new Avengers team. Nothing but jobbing awaits the New Avengers as a rival team, the only question is how humiliating they make it.
