What is your favorite decade for films? For me it's the 70's.

2000s. high production quality and lots of great titles.
50s for the writing and overall film quality (before color became ubiquitous), 70s for the vibes
For me, it's the 80's and the nineties. I've got a large gap when it comes to the seventies and sixties. I always get exposed when it comes to movies that were released before the eighties. I know some, but not a lot. I've seen a couplle of Marx Brothers movies, but never a Buster Keaton one. I've never watched a movie that didn't have sound.

I was finishing high school. Marvel and Disney were ramping up the MCU. Whispers of Star Wars coming back. Dark knight trilogy. Take me back
Suck start a shotgun zoomie
Born 96, right on the edge of genz and genx.
You'd have bad taste even if you were 12
Bro early marvel was pretty fun. Dark knight trilogy was fantastic. 2010s were basically the last of the good remakes.
A lot of good comedies, like 40 Year Old Virgin and Step Brothers. Bad time for horror, action, sci-fi.
50's
Hays code slop
NOOOOOO YOU CAN'T BE YOUNG YOU HAVE TO BE OLD LIKE ME
Somebody please explain this sentiment to me
take it back
Capeshitters deserve the Pol Pot treatment, lothesome cockroaches.
Yes
70's was such a perfect era for kino. Right after censorship had ended, but right before blockbusters became a thing and big dumb action movies or gore effect compilation horror movies took over. It was just real shit, and good characters. No CGI or digital cameras, you could have special effects but they weren't anywhere near the level where it was a good idea to focus your movie on the special effects so movies were generally still about real things and shit that matters. It was gritty and real.
40s. Three Strip Technicolor and Noir at their watershed moments.
90s
80s had great blockbusters across the board.
Now you’re just being a cringe hater. Early marvel MCU was fun and exciting. End of the MCU is total trash, but up to around age of ultron was fun as hell.
80s is probably the worst era for blockbusters ever zoomie. the only good shit from the 80s was "indie" movies and small productions.
70s was a golden age, as points out, couldn't have said it better myself. Even the IPs/blockbusters of the decade are still among the best ever, Jaws, Star Wars, Superman. The more I watch from the 70s the more I fall in love with it..
Verhoeven is so fucking based. He peaked in the 70's and then later again in 2006 though, but Americans wouldn't know what I'm talking about
For art, 70s. For overall societal happiness, early to mid 90s. Nothing will best early 90s optimism/naivete run of golden age Disney, golden age Spielberg, young leo/brad/tom, rise of Tarantino, etc. you had to be there.
Wrong board.
I like the 1950s.
extreme dimorphism between men and women
men have deep voices and their hands are clearly used to manual work
women are demure and approachable
no vocal fry
scripts use proper English
70's is best but 30's are underrated. Silent era has a unique charm too because it's basically a different medium and it has some surprisingly FUN stuff, but admittedly a lot of it is kinda hard to get through, even some of the greatest movies from the era can be a bit of a chore at moments because lets face it they're literally a hundred years old.
I like the lavish yet dark thrillers of the 90s
Verhoeven never fell off. Elle and Benedetta were both solid
liking movies is verboten
No its not, you're a millennial, gen y, which is even gayer than being a zoomie.
Verhoeven never fell off
He did back in the 90's in America. Hollow Man was not great, still a fun watch because Verhoeven literally cannot make a shit movie but it was pretty dumb and mid. Then he took a break, went back to the Netherlands, and started kicking ass again.
no mention of anything artistic
only trad larper shit
Anyway, here's your 50's movie bro, enjoy
How do you feel about The 4th Man?
Total domination of European and Japanese cinema.
I illegally downloaded it once but it kept freezing and I think it had a virus so I deleted it. I should seek it out again though, the little I saw of it was kino

what
That's literally 1959. For Europe there's Fellini, Bergman, Tati, Bergman, Bresson, Malle and obviously the Japanese masters Kurosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi. Some of their finest films were made in the 50s.
Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with French New Wave. I liked The 400 Blows and loved Hiroshima Mon Amour.
Anyway, here's your 20's movie bro, enjoy
There's two Bergmans?
I got BTFO'd, I admit it
No. My bad. You can put in his place De Sica, but his most famous movie is from 1940s. I liked Umberto D more, though.
Their best works were made in the 60s though and that's also why it's the best decade for film.
I love this shitty movie.
shitty
80s and 90s. Pretty much anything made before digital cameras is my favorite decade.
people like you are why film making is dead
50s, 60s, 70s are Kino. 80s and early 90s are fun.

You really mean ANYTHING?
Meant to post pic, Valley of the Dolls is an amazing film, stars Sharron Tate actually. This came out after her murder, very, very loosely related but I highly recommend them both.
Beyond had no business being good as a b-movie.
You only say that because the current state of things. Being young in that time with marvel just taking off was some of the most exciting days of cinema. Theaters were going nuts, they started added cushy chairs and bars, everything seemed like it would go up forever. Unfortunately it didn’t.
late 30s early 40s
Gen X were already adults in 96, you retard.
I always thought the future of cinema would be more guys like him. Subversive, funny, sex and violence somehow crammed into a blockbuster package. Turns out he is unique and no one else can do it.
I mean look at this

he is calling nazis fags without actually having to spell it out
1970s rule because of color film advances and much more creative freedom. The edginess was tamed by the 80s
Cinemas were better when everything was dirty and you were allowed to smoke.
Okay grandpa, let’s get you back to bed
he is calling nazis fags without actually having to spell it out
I honestly didn't get that impression at all. It's more about how friends somehow found themselves on the opposite sides of a war, but somehow their humanity and even a part of their friendship still endures. That's what I like about Verhoeven, he shows the horrors of the second world war very bluntly but he also shows how life just goes on in times of war and that people are still people, on both sides.
Another scene with a pretty genius double meaning is the student hazing scene at the beginning, I think it might be one of my favorite Verhoeven scenes ever. He says so much without ever spelling it out: m.youtube.com
There was still a lot of edge in the 80's but it kinda got expressed in dumb ways like gore obsessed horror movies. Which is fun, but a lot emptier than the 70's edge
80s, half of my top 10 comes from '87 and '88.

I'm gonna start using this. Most accurate way to describe the current state of cinema. Even the art films nowadays feels insincere and babbified, I have not seen a single movie recently that doesn't spoonfeed its meaning to viewers.
