This video put me off from the song early on. The british accented white rap coming from a giant detached head in noodle's closet, i just dont know man... simply put me off. Also their video for Rock The House with a full 45 seconds fixated on murdoch's crotch... what were they thinking. What is that video even about. Why are there balloons? It just doesnt make sense on a core level, the attachment of audio/visual meaning was not there and Del's rap just seemed like it was just something irrelevant happening randomly by complete happenstance while the video was going

I thought Now Now was a nice album. Not like it was gonna beat Demon Days but I actually come back to it and appreciate what they did with the stripped down sound whereas I never come back to The Fall, Humanz, Song Machine, Cracker which all sound instrumentally generic, amateur, or both and are full of forgettable and generic guest rap sections. I don't even dislike rap, and the guests spots on Self Titled and Demon Days are beloved to me, but all of this later stuff felt hallow, unfunky, and hopelessly commercial. Its like all the worst parts of disco infected Damon and friends but I think that's just what modern era pop is like.
But it's not like gorillaz wasnt conviently financially viable from the get go. It was always pop in its way. So its frustrating to see it basically lose its soul despite already being an almost satirically artificial and soulless band in the first place. Gorillaz became what the first two albums and b sides compilations existed to critique- vapid, boring, generic pop music of questionable quality that sniffs its own farts
