I marathoned S01-S08 for the first time, watched the first movie after S05 and 2nd one after S08. Man I shouldn't have done that. This show fell off hard. I did enjoy the first few seasons atmosphere. Lot of night shots, fog, lots of helicopter shots, real explosions etc. Honestly aliens were the least interesting aspect of the show. When the show cut back on those it all went to shit. Duchovny in the end looked like he was being forced to act on gunpoint. scully was cute tho, not as cute as the first seasons but aging nicely.

This episode, like some other standalone episodes, had some really serious and chilling implications that rivals all the alien stuff. the UFO aliens ain't shit, they bitches compared to these nightmare things

It's weird how the show forgot what it was supposed to be about. When Duchovny wanted to leave, they should have just replaced him. I don't just mean drop in a new actor, which is what they did with Robert Patrick, I mean continue the original premise. Instead it just degenerates into unadulterated Mulder-in-absentia worship. I remember watching a late season episode where Krychek shows up with gunk on his face claiming to be Mulder while Scully is taking care of their irrelevant baby, and I was literally disgusted. This is like some soap opera bullshit where a guy's evil twin has an affair with his wife or something. Two FBI agents and a weird crime that can get resolved in one episode is all you need. No lore, no obnoxious "funny" episodes like the show likes to do in the later season, just two agents and a weird crime. Just go investigate the Loch Ness monster or something, Jesus fucking Christ.

Nah. You still need the mythology episodes for the show to work even if Chris Carter didn’t know how to resolve any of it. A lot of Mulder/Scully’s character development happened in those episodes versus the MOTW episodes.
