So what percentage of shorts is considered "padding" on Letterboxd? 5%? 10%? Curious to hear what you guys think.
Stop caring about what w*men think, they are lesser creatures.
Understanding satire requires 20 IQ points higher than the average Korine fan
Good eye, anon.
nerd is jealous of people having fun
many such cases. try going outside.
Punq statpadded with the hefty sum of 49% shorts.
For tonight, should I watch:
They all Laughed
Licorice Pizza
Leon: The Professional
Elephant
Nostalghia or
The Holiday
?
I love WOMEN and I love HUMANITY
Nostalghia
You are too low IQ to get Korine. Stick with Transformers flicks.
Bay > Korine
Clarke's Elephant
Elephant if it's the Alan Clarke one. They All Laughed if not.
Great movie but it always feels so surreal to hear white people talk in Mexican language.
Bay mature contemplative cinema
Korine toddler meltdown cinema
tfw can't fool myself into believing I like The Brutalist
What Korine does is taking aesthetics and making flicks with them, simple as. He's never really taken a morally judgemental standpoint towards the subjects he works with. Gummo doesn't judge white trash niggas at all, for example. He just shows shit like it is, trying to find beauty in it all.
Elephant, doesn't matter if it's Clark Kent's or not.
funny that you had to pick specify transformers because all the other bay flicks are better than hackory korine's. stick to video games nerd boy.
Transformers 1 and 3 destroy all Korine joints.
Bay is the one doing straight faced fun action flicks people mistake for having a message. He's just a dumb shit zoomer visualfag. Korine, like Wes Anderson and Todd Solodz makes films for The New Yorker journalists.
Only other person here who understands Korine. The only people who watch his movies and thinks he's passing judgement on anything are nerds who don't go outside and have no friends.
Totally wrong, they all have a very clear point of view about American society and capitalism.
Bay is the greatest director of the last 35 years.
Pickpocket (Bresson) > Pickpocket (Zhang-ke)
Elephant (Clarke) > Elephant (Van Sant)
Crash (Cronenberg) >>> Crash (2004 Academy Award winner)

I get the vibe that Corbet will make a masterpiece at some point
He's still early in his career as a director, maybe he'll find a great screenwriter to collaborate with and his true genius will be brought out
fooling oneself into believing he likes a bad movie
For what reason?
You just sound insecure that you don't get the satire of his films.
As long as he keeps trying to make that masterpiece, he will keep failing to make anything of value. Dishonest filmmaker.
I'm coping because I was happy about new architecture kino incoming but seems like I'll re-watch The Fountainhead for the twentieth time or re-read Man Without Qualities because there can't be good new stuff aside from fucking Albert Serra.
I don't mean to be judgemental, but... yeah. He's obviously in on some trolling, but I for the life of me can't see him being a bitter man. He actually seems to have a lot of empathy for people. You can't read this Gummo quote and really think he's a lifehater: "Life is beautiful. Really, it is. Full of beauty and illusions. Life is great. Without it, you'd be dead."
Would need to elaborate on that for me to believe it. The fact that he shows american "low" culture don't mean that he despises it; in fact, he seems to love it! He's kinda in Marty territory regarding his idealism for "low" culture. Hell, EDGLRD music vids are straight up trap joints, man. Done without irony, too.
what's the Anon Babble verdict on money from home (1953)?
Post directors who definitely drink Mountain Dew.
god twink death is the saddest thing in the world
I'm this close to watching Mysterious Skin although I'm aware he's not the same person.
re-read Man Without Qualities
Read Austerlitz, it's the novel that inspired Corbet, and it's full of meditations on architecture.
I heard Haneke force-fed and fattened him on the set of Funny Games.
Korine mocks the fuck out his subjects but then hides behind "its so fun dude." Typical evil left wing jew.
The fact that he shows american "low" culture don't mean that he despises it
Low IQs don't get this. It's actually very telling.
Why is he doing the Dreamworks protagonist eyebrow thing?
Watch Heinz Emigholz flicks.
His hag partner fattened him up on purpose.
Not the kind in cans
I heard Haneke force-fed and fattened him on the set of Funny Games.
Kek. Like I said, he doesn't even look like the same person nowadays.
The fact that he shows american "low" culture don't mean that he despises it
Low IQs don't get this. It's actually very telling.
You don't get Korine's cinema. Go and read the critic reviews of Spring Breakers (top critics only): rottentomatoes.com
Why don't you actually give your own reasoning instead of pointing to Rotten Tomatoes """top critics"""?
Do it, it's amazing. Humanistic like Korine.
I actually think you need to have some life experiences to get his shit (or at least see it the way we do). Like, honestly, Kids is pretty much a tragedy film, -very humanistic-, yet niggas either just see the flick as "yo, this shit lit" or "he's poking fun at retarded zoomers, lol xd, based!". Unironically misunderstood filmmaker since the very beginning. Seems like the new gen Anon Babblemakers like LVT, Haneke, Korine, etc, are either you love them or hate them, get 100% filtered by them or get them 100%. My 2 cents.
Oh, okay. Well Harmony Korine's films often employ a unique blend of satire and absurdity to critique various aspects of contemporary culture. His approach typically highlights the contradictions and extremes of American life, particularly focusing on youth culture, consumerism, and the superficiality of fame.
One prominent example is "Spring Breakers," where Korine juxtaposes the hedonistic lifestyle of college students with a stark commentary on the emptiness of such pursuits. The vibrant visuals and party scenes are contrasted with moments of violence and moral decay, showcasing the dark underbelly of the American dream. By exaggerating the characters' desires and actions, Korine invites the audience to reflect on the absurdity of their motivations and the consequences of their choices.
Additionally, in films like "Gummo" and "Trash Humpers," Korine employs a non-linear narrative and unconventional storytelling techniques to challenge traditional cinematic norms. These films often present marginalized characters and bizarre situations, forcing viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about society. Through this surreal lens, Korine satirizes the way media shapes perceptions of reality and the often overlooked struggles of individuals living on the fringes.
Overall, Korine's films serve as a mirror reflecting the absurdities of modern life, using satire to provoke thought and discussion about the cultural phenomena he depicts.
Kids is pretty much a tragedy film, -very humanistic-
It's not humanistic at all. Korine reminds me of Eggers. He changes what his films are about depending who he talks to.
In another way, it makes perfect sense. Eggers' two feature films that predate The Northman are The Witch and The Lighthouse. The former examines Puritan paranoia and female power, thanks to the sterling performance of Anya Taylor-Joy (who stars in The Northman as Olga, a sorceress). The latter, in Eggers own words, exposes toxic masculinity, but from the point of view of total societal isolation – free of the constraints of what men are meant to be.
For Eggers, the turn off to Viking culture in "The Northman" was to subvert the "macho stereotype and reclaim the white supremacist misappropriation of Viking culture," he said. It all changed when he went to Iceland. "The landscapes are so incredibly inspiring that I finally picked up some Icelandic sagas and started to read them."
Word salad
More like Harmony Snorin'
That's insane.
smartest korine fan
Shit OP, who baked this? I'm huffing and puffing right now.
If you think that’s “word salad”, you have the vocabulary and intelligence of a third grader
A big swing from Alex Ross Perry incoming
Pavement are overrated unfortunately. Should've picked a different Gen X hipster band, like Sonic Youth, or Dinosaur Jr
no A24
no Neon
it's shit
Looks like a mid-sized swing at best.
Don’t give a fuck about that hack piece of shit, failed as a filmmaker so demoted to documentary trash, suits him atleast
*swings for the fences*
A film can be satirical while also not being mean spirited.
This is Anon Babble, not /blacked/
The worst failed Anon Babble meme
Corbet will make a masterpiece at some point
Unlikely. He is like James Gray and Sean Baker, entirely unexceptional, mediocre, and pretentious, but good at specifically the film festival grift.
meme
It's only the truth.
Eggers learned how to tie his shoes here
it's mid. when does godard get good?

Watch Canadian arthouse.
That's a degenerate American Jew
Don't speak ill of beloved actress Sarah Gadon's husband.
How dare you stand where Bujoldbro stood
Sarah Gadon's husband is a proud Canadian and not Jewish.
Kinda looks like she has a 5 o'clock shadow here
Hot
More than anything, I love movies.
Canada is the 51st State anyways
Just stop and never watch another Godard, you don’t deserve to know his genius
