This is what people in 1982 thought Los Angeles would look like only 37 years into the future
What was up?
This is what people in 1982 thought Los Angeles would look like only 37 years into the future
What was up?
people used to be optimistic and then the internet came along.
you mean the movie lied?!?!
Consider where the 20th century began technologically compared to 1987. They probably believed the rapid advancement would continue forever.
This is not an optimistic future.
Lots of places look like this today, minus the flying cars and biodroids
this was a dystopian 2019 LA in 1982
real life LA 2019 is actually worse
The Japanese economy was starting to really take off in the early 80s while America's was still stuck in stagflation. As a result Japanese companies began buying assets in the US and there was a real fear that "this is how the Japs are going to take us over." The paranoia never really got past idle chatter for the average person but it was there nonetheless.
they didn't yet realize that nothing ever happens
It'll be interesting to see what nation takes the spot of "evil US rival that economically dominates the world" once China's economy crashes and the PLA begins crushing food riots
I'll tell you exactly what happened kid. Mitt Romney lost in 2008 and along with it our Mormom Scifi future
Dude that was 2012. McCain ran in 08.
any year now, china is on the verge of collapse
t. increasingly nervous lardistani
Strangely enough it’s shaping up to be Europe, although it’ll probably be under some sort of sharia by that point. Who’d have thunk it?
Probably just a series of great powers dominating their respective regional spheres of influence
Basically a return to late 19th century geopolitics
was the early 90s really as peak as it looked in movies and television?
Japan, Inc takeover, they clearly didn't know the super-elites' plans to make China manufacture everything, including kohveed
Yes, I believe it was
This was their idea of how horrible LA could possibly become - they never imagined the truth.
Delusional.
It is in a sense. Their vision of a future dystopia was a high-technology world ruled by intelligent but amoral people. They never thought we'd be dealing with a massive IQ drop and the ghettoization of the world.
they had already destroyed major cities in the 80's
They knew nothing was going to change
Strangely enough it’s shaping up to be Europe
Now that's rich
Bowie sounded crazy in 1999 when he said internet could go sideways, when it sped up snail mail + had people find each other from far away. It's only 9/11, iraq war, continual devaluing of usd through unnecessary wars, & enriching middle-men like mandatory payment to mis-named affordable care act, etc, bailing out companies that should fail on their own bad management/fraud, censorship/overspending by governments that pessimism set in. propaganda campaigns cost $$.
Yes It was
At that rate there was a lot of expansion and tech advancements. The economic bubbles burst right after then.
enriching middle-men like mandatory payment to mis-named affordable care act
used to work at an insurance brokerage, it's honestly appalling how many people are paid for doing absolutely nothing.
The US chose to babysit the entire world and let mexico flood into the country instead of continuing to get better
No he tried to open the portals in the 08 primaries. The sky wept blood when he withdrew
9/11, the global financial crisis, and Neo-Marxist ideas took over the country leading to black worship and the repurposing of Western Civilization to cater to black people who are quite literally retarded.
the Internet diffused human intelligence, ran out of it, then began pulling down the average, and is now actively making people dumber. Flying cars and Holograms aren't objectively that far off, I can see them being real by 2049, but we could have achieved it quicker if it were not for the internet and that lowly common denominator
Look at it impartially: they’ve abandoned their traditional liberal values (free speech and democracy) in favour of authoritarian shams of same. Demographics are destiny.
The city if Blade Runner is a multiethnic sewer. They even developed a new language - a mix of Japanese, Spanish, German and others.
LA was majority mexican long before that happened
and black worship happened before the 80's
It's a sewer the same way very large Chinese cities are sewers and it's "multiethnic" but it never explores the negatives of that too much.
It's still an unironically more positive view of the future than what is actually going to happen by the end of this century.
Futurists are ALWAYS wrong because they're always rich kikes and have no grasp on reality.
You Americans are really delusional. It's pretty apparent that your domination is ending and it seems like your new president even accelerated it.
At this point it's more likely that you'll experience a stronger economic crash than China.
The Matrix is a documentary.
The good times of the 90s were basically fueled by the boomers selling off our entire manufacturing sector to make line go up for awhile. That's why we're in such deep shit now.
I mean, we don't have Off-world colonies, but the Earth in Blade Runner is clearly a shithole. It's why everyone that can afford it leaves.
They didn't know Proposition 187 was going to be proposed and then ignored because everyone voted the way Jews didn't want them to and that's why Putin is the bad guy because he's anti-democracy
yeah, the U.S. is in deep shit because we no longer *checks notes* make our own clothing or piece together smartphones for 14 hours a day. good one.
You understand that North America has literally everything needed to supply itself, yeah? Food, oil, minerals, you and it. There’s no reason to have to trade with anyone. Where would you rather be when the shit hits the fan? China?
go to the store
literally every single actual value added good is produced somewhere else
hmmmmm
yeah man wiping vast swaths of stable, good paying manufacturing jobs sure has had zero negative repercussions
Prop 187 is a good excuse for people to read The Concept of the Political.
it's almost like the U.S. economy shifted to different sectors. weird.
further, U.S. manufacturing never died. we still do a lot of high-skill manufacturing of machinery. the low-skill shit? yeah, that's gone because it no longer made sense for companies to employ americans to do the work.
the U.S. economy triples in size after shifting to financials, tech, and service
yeah bro, really fucked us up bad. it's a real shame all those companies that never would have agreed to pay american workers american wages were pushed out of the country.
fucking morons.
We don't even get the cool dystopia. We get the completely soulless minimalist one.
just learn to code lol
The fact that there are viable off-world colonies that you can immigrate to is already very optimistic.
>the U.S. economy triples in size after shifting to financials, tech, and service
who cares if quality of life is going in the shitter at an ever accelerating rate
who cares if everyone is depressed, miserable and on a cocktail of drugs
who cares if the country is flooded with brown mystery meat
line MUST GO UP at all costs
The Rothschilds don't profit as much from this.
t. poor
China did it. No reason Los Angeles couldn't have done it too.
